Quake 4 is fun for just the first go.. then it just dies out like Doom 3 did..

Quake 4 multi = Quake 3.. but we all know how sick everyone is with it..

FEAR will be a must have, if you've havent played it yet... your X1600 might struggle, maybe with some stuff toned down with res on 1024x768 you're probably fine..

Half Life 2.. a little old, but still instant classic..

COD2.. same things, fun at first go, boring... and i mean VERY boring the second time through..
    Me want Ultrabook

Prey is really good but it is a bit short (Get through it in around 6 hrs total).

Painkiller, quite dated but a no nonsense FPS. Simply action all the way from the moment you start. Kill everything in an area and move onto the next.

Serious Sam series, another one a bit like Painkiller with the humour of Duke Nukem.

Judge Dredd. This didn't do so well as it is a bit more specific with what people like. Personally I thought it was great start to finish.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Much better once patched up to the latest build but still quite buggy. Nice change from the normal FPS as it is medievil setting with swords and bows ec. Also has a simple stat system for building up attributes like in a RPG.

TRON 2.0, instant classic in my eyes. Looks great and plays the same! Played through it a few times now and never got bored with it. Should be able to pick it up now 2nd hand for next to nothing. You can also play the light cycles multiplayer, never a bad thing!

Thanks all, PREY and FEAR & HL2 it is then!

Any comments re: HL2 Episode 1, 2, etc

Are they just money spinners, or good follow on games?

    Cheers again...

p.s. The X1600Pro is a stopgap, if I find it comes up short, I'll flog her on fleaBay and get either an X1950 or an Nvidia 8600...

The Half-Life series in general are excellent FPS games. You could also try Unreal Tournament 2004 and Battlefield 2/2142.

FarCry seconded - great single player game even.

HL2 a must for me - as you get CounterStrike free with it basically - best multiplayer online FPS game going.
Been playing it in all forms for approx 3 yrs now and stillhooked.

    F.E.A.R

    Battlefield 2

    Doom 3

    Half-Life series

    Far Cry

Messiah. Not really an FPS but similar enough and lots of action.
