    Xbox 1 Hd...

    Hey Guys,

Seeing as we've now got a 42" hitachi plasma (alis 1024x1024 display, oo-er but thats another story for another thread), I was thinking about getting a HD Pack for the xbox and hooking it up to the tv...

I've been reading about and it seems that microsoft disabled 720p and 1080i in all PAL consoles, but left it enabled in NTSC ones, and as such there is a utility which can 'flip' something, somewhere, to make the console think its NTSC and enable 720p/1080i. which is great.

However, does this mean all my PAL games wont work @ 720p?

Ive tried to keep this above board, ie no mention of modchips/etc, but if its still passed the line then feel free to delete it!

I've never heard of an xbox having 720 or 1080 enabled in NTSC, but not PAL.

Where did you hear about this?

u need to chip or soft mod your xbox and get a component cable, then u run enigmah video switcher to switch the output of the console from pal to ntsc, then goto video options in the dashboard and now 480p,720p and 1080i options are all available.

not many games run in hd though soul calibur 2 and amped 2 spring to mind, but its really good for xbmc.

heres the full list of compatible games HD games link

the box is modded and i have XBMC installed, yeah i know i can use enigmah to switch between ntsc/pal thankyou for the list of compatible games, but are they NTSC only, or will PAL games (those that are compatible) run @ 720p ?

ooh, looks like fifa 2007 supports 720p, that'll be awesome!

Use a VGA cable if you can, it seems to be better than component on the Xbox 1 - although you may have to pay a bit more.

Once the Xbox is set so it can output HD, Ive always had to run mine in NTSC to get the HD to work.
Ive not played about with it much though - no need when its hooked up to a Dell 24"

are you hooked up via d-sub or component there Agent... also any idea where i can pick up an xbox(1) vga cable? im guessing the 360 ones are completely different...

[e!] looks like i can get one of these for ~$80 (£40ish) which would do the job, looks a bit expensive tho...

personally i got a component cable for £6 delivered off ebay works fine, 1080i seems to give a marginally better picture than 720p on xbmc, emulators etc, although it does cause a little lag on menu screens and such cos the xbox only has 64mb ram.

I use D-sub, and brought one of the *proper* converters - but they aint cheap. See here. It really is pretty much pixel perfect though

You can make your own like the one here to save you some cash if you have the time.

Just dont buy one of the cheap transcoder ones from Ebay

hmm looks like its a toss up between a component cable for £20-ish, or a d-sub converter, which i'll need the component cable for anyway

Think i'll try component and see how it goes.. the tv is a 42" plasma, but its hitachi and uses the ALIS 102x1024 res display, so could be interesting...

Oh and the 2nd link you gave points to http://here/

    Lost the link now

As for component - The VGA device plugs directly into the xbox, no cable bar the VGA cable is needed.
Just had a look at the new ones though, so I can see where that's come from - See if you can find one of the older ones on Ebay. Should be pretty cheap now

YMV with component - some people have reported success, others have had major issues. Think it depends on your xbox version (although dont ask me which and considered 'good' and 'bad').

Oh, and you can get a xbox component cable for a fair bit less than 20 quid

    quick browse of ebay:

    £4.50 cable here

£15 breakout box (dunno if there are any cables included,i assume not cos they arent in the picture)
    here

I also saw a £20 kit from america which was the official microsoft version and came with all the cables etc.

is the £4.50 version going to be as good as the £15/£20 version?

The reason the breakout box is more is because it has a digital audio out splitter in there.
Otherwise, you'll just get the normal left and right analogue output with the component cable.

Im not a big fan of paying stupid amounts for cables, but that one does look so cheapo that even I would probably spend a few quid more
Component is still analogue, so while I refuse to spend silly amounts on cables, Its still work while buying one that doesn't look like its come from Lidl

Probably worth the extra few quid?

Its too hard to say from just pictures of the item really

i saw that one, but it still looks pretty shoddy - its an 'original' one, ie for xbox 1, rather than anything official which i would prefer...
im quite tempted to bite the bullet and just pay £20-ish for a decent one - it's only a one-off, and its cheaper than buying a new game

    Aye - do it mate

I wouldn't normally say it about cables, but I know how fussy the Xbox 1 was over them
