error screen on resident evil 4 (pc)

after installing resident evil 4 on my pc, i tried to run it.

but this alert window popped up.

any idea how i can get it to go away and let me run the game?

i guessed it was something to do with DX, but i already have DX9.0c

    any help will be welcome

    Nick

then install the patch which adds lighting to the pc version, but removes the letter T

Here you go - http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl...shtml?d3dx9_30 - this is where I get all my missing dll files from.

It is a zip file (1.1mb), so you will need a tool such as 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) it's free. It's also free ofviruses and spyware, at least as far as my checkers are concered.

    Hope this helps.

However it should have been included on the install disk, and usually they update your version during the installation.

i'd strongly suggest against trying to fill in a single blank from potentially a large pile of them, for a system component like directx

    there are 4 versions:

    * gamecube - original version, all in-engine cut scenes and high-res graphics. letterboxed widescreen throughout
    * ps2 - port from gamecube version. reduced graphical quality, cut scenes are video-cap from the gamecube game, adds an extra section, but supports "true" widescreen
    * pc - dreadful port from ps2 version. initially released with no lighting, still filled with low quality textures, and doesn't support PC controls (keyboard-only or joypad-only)
    * wii - combined port from cube and ps2. uses the full-quality graphics from the gamecube and sharpens them up, adds the ps2's extra section but with proper graphics, does widescreen properly

of the four versions, the best is a matter of opinion - technically the wii version looks best, but the controls may be confusing for some. between the ps2 and gamecube version, it's a choice between graphics (gc) and content (ps2). the pc version can't compete with any of the above

well put directhex... i very nearly brought a gamecube just for this but when i got offered a brand new slim-line ps2 for £50, had to wait about 7 months for it to be released on ps2, loved it when it did finally come out.

hmm cant agree with that at all, whilst it was true the original pc port was terrible the 1.1 patch makes it the best version of the lot, the cutscenes may be low quality avi's but in game being able to choose much higher resolution and apply aa & af really make the game shine over 2 years after its initial release.

heres a few screens i took when i played through it again recently, screens are 1080p.

    screen1

    screen2

    screen3

those HUD and environment textures are terrible, the switch down to sub-PAL resolution for cut-scenes is inexcusable, and the pc version's controls are abysmal. best how, exactly?

the cut scenes were avi's on ps2 aswell not just pc so it'd be unrealistic to expect them to add in game cut scenes to a port that will sell one tenth of ps2 version if that.

hud is bad yeah, couldnt care less though its only a tiny portion of the screen and tucked away in the corner.

the textures arent the best but for the most part you dont really notice them as your playing.

the controls are fine, i played it with a wireless 360 controller and didnt feel the need to remap any of the buttons but i could of easily used joy2key to remap them if i had wanted.
