    Halo 3 on Vista

    Anyone else playing it?
Recieve it yesterday. Dont know what i was expecting, but have to say i was slightly disapointed. Seems just like the last one prettymuch.

Odd but nice feature that you can just insert the disk & play on an install-as-you-go basis. But otherwise nothing yet outstanding after an initial hours play.

Slight annoyance is setting up a custom button config. As i have a problem with my left hand i usually have the directional keys as wqse instead of wasd. But it wont let me re-map these. So i've dug out the add-on keypad for my Seitec Eclipse.

Im not gonna bother with this. Its a 2004 game, selling at £30 - no thanks. I know if I bought it I would just be disappointed with graphics so much that nothing could make up for it.

I would much rather spend my money on a new game, like DiRT and still have £10 change (based on play.com prices). Not forgetting that I'd need to buy a Gold membership to play online, when practically everyother PC game is free to play online.

For me, that makes Halo 2 a ~£70 game if you include the Live subscription, which is laughable for any PC game, let alone one thats 3 years old.

I would agree. Its too much poppy for a two year old console port and I really couldn't give a flying toss for games for windows live.

Could never see the appeal in Halo/Halo 2 always thought the only people that rated them were the ones that never played a PC FPS.

I though it was still free to play online against other PC users, and that you only needed a gold account to play against 360 players (which Halo2 doesn't do anyway).

just did a quick search for any more info and came up with this:

    Quote Originally Posted by gamespot
Halo 2 is the first game out there with support for the PC version of Xbox Live, the console's pay-to-play online service. There are two levels: a free silver level and a paid gold tier. The game comes with a free month of gold access, or if you already have an Xbox Live account, you can log in using your e-mail address and password. The split between silver and gold on the console makes some form of sense--if you pay for gold, you can play online games; if you're silver, you can't. Of course, that sort of tactic wouldn't work on the PC, where the standards for free online multiplayer are firmly entrenched, so Microsoft has made some seemingly arbitrary limits for silver members on the PC. Headset-based voice chat is available to all users, which is nice. Silver members are limited to using the server browser to find games, while gold members can hit a "quick match" button to get into a game quickly. This button has a habit of throwing you on empty gold tier servers, and the server browser works better anyway, so this is hardly a reason to sign up. It's also worth noting that one of the gold tier abilities will be to play against Xbox 360 players in select games, but Halo 2 does not have this sort of cross-platform support. Lastly, the game will only let you get multiplayer achievements if you have a gold account
Silver is the free account and Gold is the £40/year account, and apart from wanting to get the Multi-player achievements (which you can only get on a Gold account) I see no reason why you would have to fork out for a Gold account if you didn't want one.

edit: now that I've actually read the review, I think I'll pick it up in a couple of months once it's dropped to bargin bin prices (should give me time to upgrade a few things on my PC to run it a bit smoother too).

Halo 1 - no. It's an excellent game that holds it's own against many PC FPSs. However, I was very disappointed with Halo 2 which seemed really naff for some reason. Couldn't get into it at all.

    agreed!
Halo 2 was a continuation of the story, which I found quite interesting. As for the person up there who said that Halo was for people who never played PCFPS. I used to love Source, but when you've got a bunch of people round, with 2 xbox's playing an 8-man on halo 2, 1-player CS doesn't hold much appeal.

Yeah I think that's the case too. The multiplayer on Halo 2 really isn't that great. I only really played Halo because of the single player which I really enjoyed.

Not played the second one - but all i seem to remember from the first was that annoying section in the middle of the game wherre the same corridor (Left, right, left) was repeated about 10 million times!!!

That said, I did quite enjoy it, but not really more than any other FPS at the time. However, I did play it on the PC, which was some time after release. Maybe on inital Xbox release it was a bit more ground breaking.

But, not something that i am looking to upgrade to Vista for.

I thought that could be applied to Far Cry other than the graphics it was dull. Each to their own.
