    Wii's decimating the console wars

I thought it quite amusing since with all the xbox vs ps3 threads, how we've completed missed out that there are so many news stories of Wii outselling by 4/5 and now.... 6 to 1...

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6265368.stm

I hope the games keep coming like Resi 4 and Mario strikers because the whole control mechanism is completely making this console.

I'm really hoping for a really uber tennis game now oh and star wars lightsabre and shooting

Surely this is no surprise as a Wii half the price of a PS3?

There are other factors as well. I read a couple months back that the Japs don't like the size of the PS3 and because of its size they go for the wii.

It sounds ridiculous so I searched for the story and managed to find it: here

Plus factor in the non-gamer appeal. My Mum was well gutted when I sold mine and she hadn't played a video game since Tetris in the early 90s.

I don't own (or want to own) a console (I can't use the standard controllers well enough) but I've played several times on a friend's Wii now and it's been excellent and very enjoyable. If I were to get a console it'd be a Wii, no question about it.

wii's are alot of fun multiplayer, it just takes getting used to the control system really. with more games coming out it can only help with the sales

Been reading that EA are going to start doing their games with dual control schemes.

One will just use the wiimote and will be pretty basic and the other will use the nunchuck and allow more advanced techniques. This sounds like a really good idea IMO as it should help to level the playing fieled further

They should make them like mortal kombat is on the wii

Allow the classic controller (very similar to PS2 controller in terms of buttons) or a nunchuk/wiimote combo

but just because the wii is outselling MS and sony doesnt mean its the best console out.

same thing could be applied to music and movies. the highest seller doesnt generaly mean its the best

i recon if we had a poll on which consoles they thought was best for members in hexus i doubt the wii would top it

Your right it is not the best console out however, it argueably the most entertaining console out. I have the 360 and the Wii, and I will soon be getting the PS3 but I am sure the Wii will provide the best entertainment, PS3 best single player gameplay and the 360 will provide the best online gameplay. Ninentdo are winnning because of the family and price factor.

The wii is an awesome piece of kit, for my sister to describe playing it as 'the best fun ever' is quite amazing. The reason its selling so well is thats its relatively affordable compared to the competition and it has a massively broader appeal than either of the other two.

Oh and shaynep why would the PS3 provide the best single player experience? All three of the current consoles should be able to provide a similar standard of experience. Its the game more than anything that provides the experience anyway not the console itself, unless navigating the menu system is a game. Online is different as other factors come into it but single player no, just no.

Its the games themselves that provide the experience.

In terms of multiplayer, i am looking forward to GT5 online. Playing games like COD3, Gears and FEAR over live has been great.

However, Nintendo have long held the crown of single room, multiplayer gaming pefection. Mario Kart 64 and Goldeneye- unbeatable . This legacy continues on the Wii with the added bonus of a revoultionary controller

Nail on head comes to mind there.

With the launch of the PS3 and the 360 who were tehy targetting to buy the systems?........ gamers...
Nintendo can't compete with that.. too much competition for such a small group so they aim for the non gamers which is an untapped market and they have free reign with no cmpetition.

I'll second that everytime I play on our Wii it just screams out for some lightsabre action.
