    "Good but also forgettable" games?

So let's talk about those misfortunate games here. I think Hitman series deserve more praise but I hardly see anyone mentioning them in their top 10 games. I personally like this series very much for diversity, level of accomplishment, unique character and play style with decent graphic and noble music but for some reason they just slip off from my mind when I'm thinking about good games. Very strange isn't it. Another one maybe Brother's In Arms, which is another good war fps title but it usually overcasted by MOH and COD series and tends to fall down to my "forgettable" league. It may lack in fluidity compared with those two but it felt more natural to me and I surely enjoyed "being in a war field" atmosphere. Do you have any particular "good but forgettable" games? Please feel free to add.

There are so many unsung heroes when it comes to games. Shadowed by bigger releases that get all the publicity.

Few that I think are well worth a mention :

Beyond Good & Evil. Fantasy adventure game with Tomb Raider style arcade bits where you have to photo animals. So playable and well put together but it tends to be forgotten.

Riddick EFBB. Another great title that really got shadowed by other titles at the time so it virtually went straight into the bargain bin. Visually it is still one of the best looking games ever, character models and locations are superb, those tiny details like the tiles in the shower room shown a great deal of work by the artists. Great use of lighting throughout the entire game and the story really pulled you into Riddicks universe.

Tron 2.0 Remeber the movie? (A lot of people tend to forget it, would make a great remake with todays technology and effects) Surprisingly enough this game did require quite a bit of power to run even though the visuals were nearly wire frame! Animation and characters were great and it was an awesome take on the forgettable film. Action came thick and fast the further you got into it presenting many varied challenges as it went. Light Bikes levels were simply amazing.

I mentioned in a post a few weeks back Judge Dredd. Created by Rebellion they managed to recreate Mega City and the Judges spot on. I loved this game to bits and still play it occasionally now. Granted the first half of the game where you had to arrest people was different but it does become more of a shooter later in. Still a decent license I felt as is Rebellions second 2000AD tie in Rogue Trooper, which also pulled you in. Rogue was a third person shooter with some great weapon mods and locations, must find where I put it as I feel the need to replay!

Depends if you mean forgettable as in other people forget them, or that you yourself forget about.

If the former then beyond good and evil certainly counts - but personally I couldn't forget it and I still wish Ubi would dare to make the planned sequels.

I'm struggling to remember good games that I've forgotten about.. because I'm still forgetting I bet I'll have a look in the collection tonight

    Terra Nova! http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/te...force-centauri

Way before its time, kinda like starsiege tribes but single player. It was a really good game, the magazines said it was a really good game, everyone who played it said it was a really good game, but it flunked big time!

Hitman is class, I'd not played it before Hitman: Contracts on the 360, but I got hooked. Ended up playing it through until I'd completed the game on the hardest setting, where you have no saves, and have to do the level in one go, real time. Got the full 1000 achivement points and everything. Solid game.

Act raiser, NBA Jam, Diddy Kong Racing. All great but not as well known as they should be.

Must agree with Stew there...diddy kong racing was ace but overshadowed by mario kart. Hitman is definatly up there in the unsung hero chart.. but what about Black and White?

Personally I think Baldurs Gate II: Shadows of Amn is the greatest game ever created. Every now and then I go back to it just to re-live the fantastic story.

The amount of detail that was put into the storyline, weapons and characters and the way that everything interacts with each other is amazing.
I havent seen any other game that comes to close to it.

I also agree with Hitman, it was a brilliant game.

I am trying to remember a great racing game....Re-Volt...thats it, that game was very fun and very good 5-6 years ago.

    EDIT:

Just remembred another fantastic game, USM 98/99 (Ultimate Soccer Manager). This game is still the best football managing game ever created, I am not kidding you.

Thanks guys, it seems there are some good games out there that I didn't know.

I heard a lot of good things about Beyond Good & Evil but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. But maybe I will soon. Can I still get it new somewhere?

It caught me by a surprise that TRON had a sequel. wow. That's probably the first movie I slept with hehe If I see it now maybe I have different opinion...but it felt too weird and boring for a teenager. Maybe it was too new at it's time.

kalniel, maybe it's time for you to drop kal and put se instead. I hope you still remember this thread

BTW I played original Nolf the other day and it was quite a fun despite the fact that I played it at least 5 times already. Good games live forever me thinks!

NOLF for me is one of the greatest games I've ever played. A friend and I played through the whole thing in a weekend session and we've never laughed so much since.

The gameplay was fun, but the story was just what kept me playing.

Only problem is, with many games like NOLF, it's like the film Memento - once you've seen it, the second time can never be as good.

Hitman also takes a perch up there with the greats. May pick it up from Steam this weekend to relive the good ol' days.

    Others:
Gothic - awkward control scheme is offputting, but get past it and there's an amazing atmosphere to this game.

Outcast - voxel graphics used in an action/rpg! - great story and exploration. Too far ahead of it's time though.

Lands of Lore 2 - great RPG, just came at the wrong time when RPGs were dying a death and everyone was buying shooters.

Good story apart from the ending

Mind you, space combat sims have a history of being incomplete, at least Freespace 2 did it in a stylish way
