... 'zomg'
Starting to look like the PS3 is going to be completely obliterated. It is a decent console, I say that even though I own a 360.
Something like this though could completely stop the manufacturing of the console if it goes ahead, meaning that a lot of owners out there could end up having a good looking box with no games to play at all.
Umm, it's just a patent troll... (They sued only Sony instead of IBM and Toshiba, and it was primarily IBM's design..)
they'll either get destroyed in court or toddle off with a nice big settlement, nothing will happen to the PS3..
The PS3 is already tracking ahead of the 360's figures for the same timescales at launch.

Patents are strange things arnt they... They seem to give rights over such basic things sometimes.
I thought patents were for how things are done/implemented, rather than just an idea like
"synchronized parallel processing with shared memory". I guess its just the way they report it.
That's what is screwed up by the US Patent Office, they just don't do any QA on the patents they assign, and will let people patent ideas, which is just plain dumb, as it's killing innovation
Apparently Sega sued the creators of one of the simpsons games because they hold a patent on the "flashing direction arrow"![]()

I agree. Although I have a strong dislike for Sony's gameing department, they are a target for being sued, just like Microsoft are in general. Like you said they should go after all parties that were involved in the creation of the Cell CPU, particularly IBM, but I guess this company isn't big enough or brave enough to try that one.
The PS3 is here to stay, nothing will happen to it, if it was to disappear it would be bad for the gaming community as a whole I feel.

I guess they're only going after Sony as they've just settled the last few they had, whereas IBM would just bury them...

Hmmm...synchronized parallel processing with shared memory...
It's just really too ambiguous imo. Sounds like something any and all multicore or multi-CPUs could do at first glance.
not a good day for sony then
