    Counter-Strike 1.6 - where to buy ?

Since I've moved to UK playing on no-steam servers in my place became ridiculous cos of high ping.
I know this game should be very cheap now, but I can't find it anywhere for reasonable price
Is getting copy with steam client is my best bet? Will I be able to play on UK servers with US version?

Get it from Steam. It's $9.95, so it's half the price you're likely to get Counter-Strike Anthology (the only retail version of 1.6 available afaik) for.

It's the same game no matter where you buy it from.

Will Valve also charge me with VAT or some other taxes?
And by buying via Steam I would have to download the installation files and they will also send me the unique CD-key or it's done somehow different?

Don't think I've ever had to pay VAT on top, but I've not bought from Steam since the CSS beta/HL2 preload so I'm probably not the best person to answer that question. Via Steam you just download the game and it'll work straight out of Steam, you won't get a CD key, the game's just linked to your Steam account. So if you're on someone elses PC and they have CS and Steam installed, you can just log into your own Steam account and it'll work.

Yeah as Tarffie said the game is forever bound to your account, as long as you have the log in details you can install it/play it from anywhere on any computer as long as you download and install it via steam.

it's very different. the purchase is linked to the steam account that made the buy, permanently. no cd key is created, no product ever mailed - instead, if you go into "my games" on the steam client on any computer, you can double-click on the counterstrike icon to make it download all required data files

Yes, they'll mind if they find out.

You'll be banned from Steam for life on all accounts that can be traced to you.
