nah, personally i hate all that futuristic crap, prefer BF2, am looking forward to HAZE and CRYSIS tho (i know they are futuristic). i think i will like those cos the games are a new concept whereas 2142 is just a rehash of BF2 which could have been released as a mod

BF2142 is awful compared with BF2
The sounds, gameplay, vehicles, everything........classic example of EA modding a good game and coming up with a kipper tbh.
Lets face it...it sposed to be a new game but its just been skinned and modded with gameplay abandoned.

    Re: Best first person shooter

If you play online alot then you can't do much better for gameplay than Red Orchestra.
Others that caught my eye are BF2 mentioned above and Call of Duty 2
The one i'm quite looking foward to (although looks very cheesy) is Turning piont fall of liberty

Bestest FPS in the ever of ever, or on the market now? If ever - Goldeneye.

Are you allowed pictures of Ryu that big, btw?

    Re: Best first person shooter

I play COD2 BF2142 and CSS atm but when COD4 comes out... there goes my life! Comes with the kit ideas from BF2142 with some extra character boosts and more recognisable weapons along with new ones. Also we get the fast paced COD2 game sytle!

I reckon BF2142 COULD have been the BEST REVISION of any game ever (even though everyone is slating EA for it) but its too glitchy and laggy. I dont think it could have been released as a mod for BF2 as it has entire new kit selection arrangements, a whole new titan game mode which has taken them a lot to get to the stage they are at now and it still isnt right, new ranking system and quite a few completely new vehicles (hovertank, escape PODs, walkers). Its certainly not the best FPS of all time though! HL2 holds that! multiplayer FPS yeah ok maybe if it wasnt for the glitches

    Re: Best first person shooter

the best FPS has to be Half-Life 2 but Bioshock may take that crown.

the best on line shooter for me is CS:S but to be honest that is going down hill.

I used to play RO a while back, and the gameplay was solid. Bit too slow for me, so only used to play it occasionally, but really a good game that not many people know about

For pure pick-up-and-play online, UT2004, by far.

    Re: Best first person shooter

    I like 2142, better than BF2 IMO, but I don't think it's the best online shooter. One of my favourites though, as wells as;

    Red Orchestra
    RtCW: ET
Rainbow Six: Vegas on my 360 is also a lot of fun

    Re: Best first person shooter

Ive had like 1300hrs or so on BF2 so I guess thats my bestest fps.. even though the hacks seem to be gettin worse and EA aren't doin much as they havent released a patch in ages to sort the probs out. Im so lookin forward to Bioshock and a few other games just to play something new thats half decent. Was excited about ET:QW but the Beta turned out unbalanced and just not that fun, hopefully they sort it out b4 release

Not quite everything; it has much better balance than BF2. As a former BF2 jet whore I know all too well just how untouchable the J-10's are. You don't see a tank and 2 APCs packed with engineers rolling around, virtually indestructible, and dominating a map. The anti-vehicle turrets actually work too. There's no single uber powerful gun and all the classes are pretty even.

I've played both games a fair bit, and 2142's much more fun than BF2 imho. The fighting just seems a lot more intense and 'fair' as there's no real cheap way to dominate other than skill. In BF2 there seems to be a lot more wandering about if you don't win the MINE!!! race for a vehicle and end up being fodder for a tank/plane whore.

    Just my 2p

    Re: Best first person shooter

Graw1&2, Farcry, Rainbow Six series, Half-life1&2 and all CoD & MoH series. I can't pick one as they are all great titles but most played FPS ever is probably NOLF. I just wanna go back and play it from time to time, I like everything about that game, story, music, weapon&gudgets, level variety, good AI(at it's time) etc.

BTW I still cannot fly chopper in BF. Flying chopper = kamikaze to me.
