I'd never do that redsky - doing so invites trojans and what not onto your computer, and helps other people get hold of the game illegally - if there was no demand for pirating games then there might be less of it. Not to mention it's still illegal even if you own the original.

Re: Bioshock demo .exe issues ? Anyone else?

    hey guys,

first, let me say this. you DO NOT NEED TO USE THE INTERNET EVERY TIME YOU PLAY THIS GAME. it is only the first time.

second, you can uninstall and reinstall this game, and if, by chance, you have 2 computers you want to simultaneously play this game on, you also can do that.

if by some chance you are reinstalling this game without uninstalling it first, a lot, there is a chance you may have to call securom and get a key, or deactivate some older installations.

but if you upgrade your hardware next week, you'll still be able to play the game. if you revamp your system and need to reinstall bioshock, just uninstall it before you go through the overhaul, and then do your reinstall.

calling it "hardware fingerprinting" is a bit alarmist. we do not transmit any of your data to any companies.

really, the only people who will be concerned about any of these security measures are those who are rapidly putting bioshock on many pcs... if you use the game as you normally do, you won't notice this at all.

Re: Bioshock demo .exe issues ? Anyone else?

i've also read from various sources that its a "games for windows" thingy on allowing only 2 installations of your game. so if all is true then you cant blame 2k entirely because of this, MS is to blame too has they are the ones who created this activation crap

Seems the activation issue is hitting Steam users too, dammit!

O DAMM IS IT? i thought it was just for people who bought the hard copy of the game!!!!!!!!!!! damm i realy only have TWO choices, buy the 360 version and live without keyboard and mouse OR, dare i say get the pc version without the "activation system on it" which is alot cheaper!

Re: Bioshock demo .exe issues ? Anyone else?

Well, how many computers do you need this game on concurrently?

I'm against activation that stops you reinstalling it on the same computer or an upgrade, but if the license says you need one copy per computer then I'm glad it's trying to keep you to that (allowing two is generous.)

Re: Bioshock demo .exe issues ? Anyone else?

No matter how you look at it, its a pain in the ass for some people. Sure alot will install and never have a problem, but having to worry about installing it too many times in succession is a major annoyance.

Better off just having us activate once and leaving it at that. It aint gonna stop pirates, the world and his dog knows that.

I just wonder how much securom charge for these 'services'. The money would be better off spent on development if you ask me

The fact that a fair few people who have bought the game and installed it on their Pc and laptop and had to format for one reason or another can no longer play without phoning some numpty shows that this system of limited activation is a pain in the preverbial eye

Re: Bioshock demo .exe issues ? Anyone else?

My issue isn't with installing it on multiple machines (I was going to buy through Steam, so would only be able to use it on one machine at any given time anyways) - I only have one machine that has the balls to play it on full settings at 1680x1050. My main issue is that I'm a tinkerer, and as such tend to end up reinstalling Windows around 6 or 7 times a year. My other concern is what would happen if SecureRom decided went bust/got acquired and turned off/decided that they weren't going to support this authentication any more/you get my drift...

There's also the question of resale value - if for instance I bought a retail boxed copy, played it and finished it then decided to sell it on... where does that leave the buyer?

I can honestly say that this is a deal breaker for me.

Re: Bioshock demo .exe issues ? Anyone else?

Well splash, if that bloke was right then you've nothing to fear - re-installs apparently aren't an issue, and resale shouldn't be either as long as you uninstall it first.

I know what you mean about securom, but I guess all the publishers need to do is release a patch and it'd avoid that problem should it occur.

say if you get a virus on your pc and had to do a reformat? does that mean 1 activation process is gone and wasted? has far as i know you dont waste an acrivationg thingy when you un install it. what if the average joe forgets to un install it before formating there hard drive also?

who in their right minds UNINSTALLS programs and games just before you do a reformat? me i just backup data than i need and do a reformat!

Unfortunately that quote is contrary to a rather large number of postings both on the 2kgames and the steampowered forums... I'm going to hang fire on this one I think

So if i want to install a game on my works PC (which i'm allowed to do) your saying that it shouldn't be allowed? I've had lots of games installed on my work & home pc with no issues what so ever. I've even contacted EA support where i had a problem with a game installed on both systems explained the issue i was getting and telling them i had it installed on both. They said it wasn't an issue. So why should 2K force this system on to us now?

Just glad i won't be buying this for PC, for that matter i may not even bother with the 360 version seeing as they can't even be bothered with implementing proper widescreen!
