    Which PC gamepad?

I have (rather foolishly) had vista 64 on my rig for a while, and I need a good gamepad to play pro evo and some nice emulators now my play.com ps2 adapter doesnt work...

anyone got any ideas. i was thinking maybe xbox360 controller (can i get the wireless one?), but its not as nice as a ps2 controller.

any decent clones, made to good quality, or any vista capable adapters?

ive heard theres some sixaxis drivers out for PC but u know the vista64 deal with the signed drivers etc

help appreciated guys, ronaldhinio just doesnt move right with the arrow keys

    cheers

    Re: Which PC gamepad?

i don't really play games much these days, but i did find i quickly got used to using an xbox360 pad while having a go at dirt
i did consider buying the wireless version, but ended up just grabbing a wired one cos it was cheaper

I use the Logitech Cordless Rumble 2. It works perfectly fine and it has Vista 64 drivers too.

playstation 2 dualshock 2 pad(with an adapter). It's still one of the best pads around and cheap as chips
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

    Re: Which PC gamepad?

You can get a wireless adapter for the 360 pad - costs about £15, which does tend to knock the price of the wireless pad up a bit - especially considering you can get the wired 360 pad for £17.

    Re: Which PC gamepad?

there is no PC-specific pad that isn't crap compared to the infinitely superior console pads

pick your favourite console pad, and get an adapter (if required) to plug it into a USB port - unless you want rumble, adapters make full use of the USB-HID spec, meaning they're driverless

    Re: Which PC gamepad?

The original Sidewinder is quite easily one of my all time favourite pads where an analog stick is not needed. Only reason I did not recommend it is because it's discontinued, and the USB re-release of the original model doesn't seem easy to find.

I do have the X360 adapter for games where I need an analog stick. I am not sure how well it works under Vista, but it is very much plug and play on XP.

    Re: Which PC gamepad?

I'm using Logitech Rumblepad2 too but in many cases minor reconfiguration of axis and buttons is required to play the game and it's quite frustrating sometimes especially when you are eager to play. I'd go for 360pad next time personally. If you can bear the inconveniences, it's an excellent pad though.

Go for a 360 pad, will work a treat, i used to have an adapter for the xbox 1 controller too that was good too. IMHO the PS2 controller is the worst abomination of a controller ever, tarted up snes controller anybody.

    Re: Which PC gamepad?

Just to confirm, the 360 pad works just fine in Vista 64-bit too.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

    Re: Which PC gamepad?

It seems that the 360 controller is a good option. Especially when Games for Windows games like Bioshock have specific support for the controller.

    Re: Which PC gamepad?

    Gotta be the 360 pad

Either the wired one, or buy the Crossfire wireless receiver if you already have a 360 wireless pad.

As ODC says, more and more games seem to be supporting it, and it saves an awful lot of hassle when they do. I appreciate that many here will reconfigure it anyway, but if you just want a quick blast of a game, it's quite useful that you don't have to go through a laborious setup first.

Seems as if it's slowly gaining acceptance as the "standard" PC pad. Much as MS hoped.

I'm using my wireless 360 controller on a vista 64 pc, the drivers are available from MS website, your prompted to that though after the drivers on the disc fail.

    Works great for me!
