Nintendo Sends Microsoft and Sony To Bed Without Any Supper.

    http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/815/815230p1.html

'Amazingly, Wii and DS together outsold final figures for PlayStation 2, PSP, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 combined. Nintendo's two systems have held the number one and two top slots in the hardware sales charts for nine months running.'

Metroid Prime launches Yankside in a few days, the all conquering Mario follows in November, in what could be (depending on if its another Mario 64 or another Mario Sunshine) game of the generation, let alone the year. Smash Bros is still to launch, Wii Fit will soon have casual gamers messing about on their balance boards...

Nintendo is teh clever. Nintendomination indeed.

If we were to believe VGChartz, then Wii overtook the Xbox360 too.

It's almost like the golden age of Nintendo again.

Although, I don't think they will dominate quite as much as the PS2 did last gen.

Why? someone else bough that Wii on eBay, so someone still owns it.

It doesn't take into account those that have a console and never use it, obviously.

No, but it subtracts your shoe size x6, minus the square root of 14, plus the amount of times Bioshock has crashed on PCs owned by people whose middle name has an A in it.

And they are still top, so there.

You've shown that you know nothing about consoles/games in general, stop posting rubbish, please.

I think its great that Nintendo are doing so well at the moment, they have proved that you don't need a stupidly powerful console to be successful

Yep - just goes to show what a clever marketing strategy can do. No ones won the war yet though...

Re: Nintendo Sends Microsoft and Sony To Bed Without Any Supper.

I've always thought that consoles are far more dependent on the games available than the hardware inside.

Only a couple of days ago i heard a PS3 owner on the radio moaning about the lack of decent games.

This kind of proves it, simple (some of them) games and good gameplay beats monster power anyday...

Re: Nintendo Sends Microsoft and Sony To Bed Without Any Supper.

Surely I'm not the only one who can raise a smile at the situation though?

The forums are full of peeps bickering over every possible aspect of the PS3\X360 situation, while Nintendo outsell both of them put together with their Wii and DS, and have a line up of games (Galaxy, Smash Bros, Metroid) that will very likely be of a higher quality than the games being bickered about.

Its like irony, or something, or maybe something else. Whatever it is, I like it.

Re: Nintendo Sends Microsoft and Sony To Bed Without Any Supper.

I am sure the games has to do with it, but it is most likely a combination of factors. The PS3 raised the bar as far as cost is concerns, and I reckon that the bar simply was too high for many. To me, that issue regarding backward compatibility also did not help their cause.

The Wii's combination of [ novel | innovative ] controller, low cost and good games is what made it what it is. But in many ways, the GC was the same, without the special controller and it left them very much behind the PS2.

I think the PS2 vs X360 is simply because their are most 'similar' in what the gameplay can offer.

Re: Nintendo Sends Microsoft and Sony To Bed Without Any Supper.

It's mainly because the Wii has a much wider audience than any other console. People in their 70's are buying it, I think it's really the first "universal" console we've had. It may not have a massive selection of games, but Wii sports alone is fantastic. Pretty much everyone can enjoy it (apart from the "I only play M rated games, get that kiddie crap away from me" gamers).

Although I find the fact you think Mario, Smash Bros and Metroid will be better than Bioshock and Mass Effect disturbing.

Re: Nintendo Sends Microsoft and Sony To Bed Without Any Supper.

Yeah - because what past Mario games have been any good, huh?

None, thats how many. None at all. Nada. Zero. 1 - 1. 24 - 23 - 1. Less than 1. None of them.

Well... apart from Super Mario Bros which is the best selling game ever, as well as one of the most important.

And Mario Bros 3 which is the best 8bit game of all time.

And Super Mario World which is probably the best 16bit game of all time.

And Super Mario Kart which is the finest racing (karting) game ever.

And Super Mario 64 which is many peoples best game of all time.

So yeah - no reason to think Super Mario Galaxy will be any good. It certainly has none of the pedigree of BioShock, thats for sure. (I'm sure BioShock is a brilliant game, btw, don't get me wrong, but will it be appearing in Best Game Ever lists 10 - 15 - 20 years from now?)

When BioShock is considered one of the most important games of all time, has sold 40 million units, and has delighted gamers of all ages for decades, you can start to dismiss the new Mario game in its favour. Until then - shush.

Also, don't forget the fact that Nintendo is making money on every console sold... and every game... and all the official peripherals. No silly subsidies for them

EDIT: Pretty interesting share price graph over the past 7 years

    maybe

the pedigree places it pretty well

after all, system shock 2 is one of the finest PC games ever produced (certainly top 5 for the platform)
