    new to Creative "Alchemy"

ive just successfully downloaded the Creative "Alchemy" sotware for my Windows Vista Home Premium - Creative Xi-Fi hardware. as i understand it it restores the 3D sound of your Windows Vista and when playing games. but would it make any diferrence when playing an MP3 file or watching videos or movies (like Youtube or Real Player, etc.) using Windows Media Player, etc.?

I think the answer depends on the apps you're running and if they can take advantage of the Alchemy software. At the minute I believe it is just for certain games to emulate the EAX ability of the Creative cards.

I use it and it re-enables surround sound for some of the games I have, but I also use iTunes and it doesn't do anything for that, it still only plays in stereo (2.1 mode at best).

Is there any way to get 5.1 in vista for music/movies etc?

I believe the way it'll be done is through the software app that play's the music/movies.
