I (don't) see the light!

The future eh? If games are any measure it looks like we're going to be making a lot of big strides in technology very soon, spaceships which can travel a billion miles in a second, lightning guns, Big Stompy Mechs and gravity guns based on potable black holes (or something) and a ton of other cool stuff like that.

But apparently somewhere in the not too distant future something terrible is going to happen to Eveready and Duracell. While a miniature nuclear generator might be able to power your super giga plasma lance, it doesn't seem to be able to run a small handheld torch anymore! Why have all the torches in the future been replaced with crappy dynamo jobbies which need recharging every thirty seconds? And since it always seems to take far less time to charge your crappy xmas stocking flashlight than it does to wear down the pittiful charge, why has no-one ever in the history of super-intelligent uber-soldiers ever considered grabbing two of the damn things?!?

I have NEVER thought of this....and yet I have suffered "dark outs" in games for years....
