Unreal Tournament, you got it spelt Tournamnet in the title Nick, or whoever did it.
your welcome in advance
I too am utterly impressed with the game.I thought UT2k4 was incredibly complicated and the general feel of the game wasn't as that of UT99 so I was quite pleased with the game especially the weapons.I didn't see any dual enforcers however - I know they're in the game but I can't find a way to use them!Anyone?
now if only we could all play ut3 together ;D

I find it boring, but its a good game. (I was playing it for aboout 4 hours last night). What I find boring, is playing deathmatch and CTF, which is identical to the deathmatch and CTF games I've been playing for the past seven thousand years. But, what I liked the most about the last game (UT2k4), was the Onslought mode, and judging by this demo (which doesn't have Onslought mode ), I think it should be pretty good. There is a CTF mode with vehicles, so you can kind of get the feel for it, and I think it will be good. I'm still not sure I would buy it though - due to it basically seeming like UT2k4 with better graphics. But the Onslought mode is all im really interested in, and they might have really improved that. If not though, then I wouldn't buy this game, when there are lots of other FPS's with much more depth.
If what you want is just a running around gibbing people game though, and you aren't already burned out by years of Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003, 2004, etc... then I suppose this is the game to get.
Graphics wise, the negative things first:
Some of the land textures look bad, and some of the land is still polygonal, like games that are 10 years old now... The fire/explosion effect doesn't look like fire, it just looks like a red/orange splurge.
The deathmatch map that looks Asian inspired, seemed to have a LOT of blurring on everything further than about 100 feet away, which I found really distracting and even made me feel a bit queezy like I'd just downed 10 pints before I played. Quite a few of the building textures are low/medium quality. If I walked up to a window ledge for example, took a screenshot, and then asked you to guess what game it was from, I would expect people to say "Max Payne"... which is ancient... They also took the concept of "Rag Doll Physics" too far, to the point now where the characters are all like.... rag dolls. You kill someone and their legs flap around like they are made out of wool.
What is impressive though, when you aren't scrutinising individual objects or textures, is when you look at the game as a whole. It looks good. Although, I have to admit, I was expecting more, but maybe thats just me. Also, perhaps this is just a personal issue, but I always think these games look much better in screenshots than in reality... Or to be more precise, if you stop moving...... the game looks amazing. But as soon as you start running around and things are exploding left and right, it all just becomes "busy" looking, and I don't think that looks good. And for example, if there is a tank stopped... you can run up to it and have a really good look at it. It looks amazing. But as soon as it starts driving away, it just looks kind of average. I know it doesn't change.... but its strange and hard to explain.... I think its just the fact that when the impressive textures are moving quickly, you can't really focus in on them, so you can't see the attention to detail, and it goes from being a really high quality looking tank... to being the tank from UT2k4 with some graphical improvement. So, it doesn't look like real life, and it doesn't look like a pretty cartoon, and it doesn't look like a shiny, colourful, animated movie... It looks like a game. Which it is... I know... But... Those DX10 Crysis screenshots for example, don't look like a game. Basically, I was expecting more, but its nothing amazing. Its just "good". Its UT2k4 with a modern lick of paint.
The thing that impressed me the most though, (as always with these unreal games), is the engine itself. I don't think it looks amazing graphically... and there are some very simplified things in display (like ground made out of no more than half a dozen polygons)... but over all, it is very good looking, and yet the frame rates are massive. Its so smooth. I was running a spyware scan, my hard disk hasn't been defragged for several months, I had my virus checker active in the background, I had my browser open with around 15-20 tabs open, and yet the game was running perfectly. I didn't look for an actual fps figure, but my educated guess is that it never went below about 30, which to me, is perfectly smooth and playable. This was on maximum settings, everything forced to absolute maximum, at 1680x1050, with Vsync enabled, and I think I had some AA enabled (either 2 or 4 x AA).
So I think thats impressive.
Really though, the thing that matters to me about these games, is the gameplay, and the gameplay in this, is almost identical to UT2k4. There are a few differences, like being able to tap Q, and a hoverboard appears under your feet which means you don't have to run around as much, and you can also tap F and you feign death, which is a nice idea. But other than that, and a few other differences, its not really any different. So if you loved UT2k4 and want to play it some more, but with better graphics, then buy this. If you don't like UT2k4 for whatever reason, then don't buy this.
Like I said before, personally, I am only interested in the Onslought mode. And I got tired of that in UT2k4 after playing it far too much. So for me to buy this game, I will looking for a few tick boxes about the Onslought mode. If the maps are bigger than the UT2k4 default maps, and they have added a bit more "something" to the mode, then I might buy it. Otherwise, I think I would rather just play something else. Because as good as it is, its still a bunch of people running around gibbing each other and chasing after flags. I'm looking for that to evolve into something much better, and this demo definitely doesn't do that. Whether the missing onlsought mode will, I don't know.
What did you find complicated?

I just don't know how you can think that
The gameplay and graphics are totally different. It has far more in common with UT than UT2K4.
There is a few game modes missing in the demo. Warfare is the one which will basically replace Onslaught.
Interestingly, it looks like you can still make Onslaught maps with the editor without any mod's. They have just not concentrated on it
I don't know how you can think its not? Wasn't the original UT just deathmatch and CTF? And then the UT2k4 was the game which introduced the vehicles? So it added the CTF with vehicles mode, and the Onslought mode? If so, then thats why I think this is an updated UT2k4. Because, well, it is and there really isn't really a whole lot new. (in this demo atleast)
Maybe there are things that I don't know about because I haven't been reading all about it. But judging it just on this demo, its almost identical. Playing the deathmatch is an almost identical experience to playing the deathmatch in 2k4. And the same goes for the CTF with vehicles. I thought that would have been something everyone agreed with?
Where I am assuming the bulk of the new features will be, is in the new equivalent of the Onslought mode. And seeing as thats not in the demo, I couldn't judge that
p.s. If you think you can sway my opinion, please go ahead I might be missing obvious stuff... And I would much rather love this game than think its average - because I don't have much else to play. Infact, thinking about it now.... I have a REALLY strange, familiar, deja vu kind of feeling, of how I felt when I first played Quake 4. In other words, "This looks nice, but I'm bored now". Obviously, if I hadn't played much UT2k4 in the past, then this would all be fresh and new to me, and I would be busy playing it now still But I played that game quite often, for a year or more, so playing this just feels like I'm going back in time and playing it yet again. The only real difference is the prettier graphics and a few other minor improvements. And a couple of things that are the opposite of improvements I suppose. Like the little car (I'm bad with names), which no longer fires that sticky line of stuff which sticks and tangles around enemies and sticks to enemy vehicles and then does damage as it pops. That has been replaced with a generic energy bolt kind of thing. There where a couple of other things which I didn't like as much too. Although some things are better. I think I prefer the new flak cannon - its pretty realistic.
