    vista compatibility question

    hi.

well, i am going to be buying a new gaming laptop it seems, and it also seems as though i am going to be getting vista shoved down my throat like a someone insane asylum on hunger strike.

anyway, is it compatible with older games? like mechcommander 2, MW4:M and planetside?, they are not the only ones, just the first one off the top of my head, probably because they are the ones that tend to have the biggest compatibility problems!

    thanks in advance!

    Re: vista compatibility question

probab;y not you can run compatiblity mode on older games although i have found EA games dont work in compatibility mode it tells you that you have no cd in the drive even when you do

unless you are buying it with a dx10 graphics card installed stick with xp for games

    Re: vista compatibility question

Try and get Vista 32-bit if you can. It reduces a lot of compatibility problems, and the 3.something GB RAM limit should be less constrictive on a lappy.

I was all ready to go Vista in about a fortnight - after months and months of fun-poking at the PS3 of OSes, suddenly we were about to get all these DirectX10 games and... well... I kinda fancied a change from XP. But then for the past week, I've heard about a dozen Vista horror stories! Just my luck.

    Re: vista compatibility question

Is that 64-bit or 32-bit Vista?

    Re: vista compatibility question

wow, so it is that bad, damn....

don't microsoft now have a deal so that you can get a copy of XP if you get a preloaded PC with vista or something? i am pretty sure i read something like that... then again, triple booting could be a pain.

you say vista 32 bit? does anyone know what vista normally comes with a new PC? that has a core duo processor

    thanks in advance!

    Re: vista compatibility question

Vista is not that bad at all. I bought Vista when it released and at that time I had many hardware compatibility issues and it was so bad that I had to remove it and put XP back on. Months later and I decided to give Vista another shot. I must say they have done a great job with updates and vendors have done a good job making drivers for Vista. I love Vista now and it is just as stable as XP. I run XP Home on my HTPC (soon to change to Vista) and I can not tell the difference between the two as far as speed is concerned. The only advantage XP has over Vista is gaming right now. Then again with DX10 games on the way, Vista will be needed anyway.

Vista is completely stable for me, never crashes, everything works, and it runs/looks great!. Game performance suffers a bit though. My rig eats it all up and spits it out though so no worries here.

Most problems can be solved by "Right Click--> Properties--> Compatibility Mode--> Windows XP SP2"
