Re: Going for a Song - Classic Musical Interludes in Gaming

Best music I've ever heard in a game:

Go to this link and check out the song titled "Kelethin" (probably best to just get the "Alternative" version which is more modern with better instruments - although the original has a bridge in it and is a bit longer I think). Click it and then click again to download the midi. It runs in Windows Media player. It will download in about 1 second. Well worth it:
PC Games Music! Free Midi Downloads!

I'm not sure whether it would translate to you just sitting here looking at a Hexus page and listening to that. Its a brilliant piece of music, but what made it extra special, is how well it fit where you were at that point in the game.

Besides that and some others, I was really impressed with the music in Monkey Island 2 (the song titled "?"). And I noticed someone mentioned Red Alert, I really liked the music in Tiberium Sun (the old game, not the modern Tiberium Wars).

Rez takes it for me, hands down.

Honorable mentions have gotta go out to MGS3, Jet Grind Radio, late goodbye from Max Payne 2, Theory of a Deadman in Farenheit, Trent Reznor for the original Quake soundtrack and one winged angel from the FF7: Advent Children, technically not a game I know but an amazing piece of music if you ask me.

-Ride the worm (Multiplayer music for House Atreides) - Don't know the artist
One of the best fitting music tracks for a RTS game I've come across. Not only did it give a sense of speed, it gave you a feeling of the desert too.[/QUOTE]

I've been whistling the Little Big Adventure 2 song for about the last 12 years

Great soundtrack for a sublime game.

Re: Going for a Song - Classic Musical Interludes in Gaming

Yes to Unreal - Shared Dig! I had just installed a new graphics card and when that music came on I had to stop and look around. It's difficult to explain, but it certainly made me feel part of something.

Yes to LBA2 as well : D If you had to ask me what came first, the game or the music I honestly wouldnt know, because both suit each other perfectly.

    YouTube - shenmue music: shenhua
    Shenmue (Dreamcast) - Sega-AM2
This track still sends a shiver down my spine. It makes me think of Yamanose (your home 'village'). The game felt huge. Working as a fork lift operator felt a million miles away from home. This theme always made me wonder what the place would have been like when my priority wasn't to avenge my fathers death.

I know it's not an original soundtrack, but the music collection fo Civilization VI is outstanding from 'middle ages' onwards. Plenty of Bach and Dvorak
