anyone know how to get high resloutions from fraps? It seems to cut it down to a low resolution all the time.

I've got the free Fraps, managed to record some TF2 and 1680x1050 (i.e. native screen resolution). Was very jumpy though, more than the game was.

Re: Recording Gameplay into a video?

If you want to record modern games that use two cores you'll want to have a quad-core for no slowdown while you record, older games a dual-core will suffice - you'll want a fast hdd too. It's also better to record at the res the game is at, so lower the game res, don't record at 50% screen res - the quality suffers quite badly; ie. 100% 800x600 > 50% 1600x1200 .

    I <3 frapsing with a Q6600 after coming from a single-core A64-3200+ ^^.

well, i am only recording planetside, which is about 3-4 years old, so no problems there with dual core and reasonably fast 7200rpm hard drive.

anything free-er than fraps though? i would rather not have silly watermarks...

    thanks in advance!

fraps free is useless, it will only record for 30 seconds....

Re: Recording Gameplay into a video?

PC Plus has camtasia studio 3 on its cover disk (december issue), this will do all you ask. You can record parts of the desktop, or all.

I just used it the other day, to do an instruction video on how to use some anti-malware prog for some elderly friends (this way I don't get annoyed when after the tenth time of showing them, they still don't get it). It worked perfectly, and now my friends don't have to call me every couple of days, they just watch the video again.

Hi, glad you got it sorted.

Just recorded 'Plasma Pong' in full screen for just over 2 minutes, worked fine (video playback was great, but think I'll have to twiddle with the audio).

Re: Recording Gameplay into a video?

THe best way to record ingame footage is to record a demo of yourself playing (using the game), then view that demo and then record from there, either using fraps or using a built in capture method from the game in question.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
