    Gears of War

Anyone else got their Gears of War (PC) early? If so, you up for some co-op?

Game.co.uk, was dispatched yesterday at 12:03 and came today at 10ish (free 2business days delivery, only took 1 though ).

They guarentee you to get it on or before release date, so they send it off a few days before (usually 2).

It runs pretty awesome, only noticed slowdown in one outdoor area. Been playing it in DX10, the only difference I can tell between DX10 and DX9 is that DX10 simply turns on 4x AA.

Nope runs fine in XP too .

Finished the campaign earlier on Casual (easiest setting) with a random person. End boss took us a good few attempts before we remembered part of the earlier game! Then it was easy. The Brumak section is a lot shorter than I expected but was fun all the same.

Was around 9hrs Campaign in co-op. But the MP TDM is a blast and can foresee re-doing the campaign on higher difficulties for achievements .

You didnt waste any time playing it did you!!!

But glad to hear that it ran well. You have quite a better system than me, but I'm sure that I can run it fine, with a bit of tweaking. Never played the 360 version, so I'm going in with virgin eyes, so to speak.

Just thinking - what if you dont have a XBL account? Is it needed to play - do you HAVE to log on? What do you miss by NOT having one? or is it another elaborate marketing scam?

You don't need it to play the single player but you do need it to play online and get achievements.

You don't need a Live account to play it. You can create a local save game, but you won't get achievements and you can't play online.

    Re: Gears of War

when i start gears up my thrustmaster gamepad, doesent work.the person im controlling just spins round and round ,without touching the pad,if i unplug the usb pad.its ok,i can play with the mouse and key board, but if i plug the pad in same thing happens.any ideas, all other games work with the pad so it cant be a faulty pad.i only play with game pads.

You get a 30-day Gold Live trial included with Gears. After that, with a Silver account you can still play online and get achivements - except in certain server types. Also, on Silver you can't invite a friend to join you while you're mid-game in single-player and fancy a helping hand without restarting to a co-op host game; you can list your game server and have them join manually however .

Nope hehe . Started playing at 2PM, till mid-night; with about 1hr of break total . I always like to complete games quickly and find out the story as quick as possible (my first time playing Gears, never played it on 360). Perhaps I would find more enjoyment spreading it out over a few days; but then again I can't bring myself to stop once i've started . Like Pringles...Mmmm...Pringles.

Live isn't so bad really, if you think about it with all the games coming out now and in the future with some added features that perhaps wouldn't be there without Live (though some that would be that you now have to pay for: You gain some; you lose some), £14 isn't so bad for 3months of Gold membership - that's about £1.15 a week: Skip a snack and there you go - and you'll be thinner for it! (Well OK, perhaps not ).
