    Question COD4 - performance?

Thinking about going and buying myself a copy of Call of Duty 4 today.. but trying to figure out how well it'll actually run on my rig (not upgraded in some time, nor played many recent games ). Can't stand jittery games, and graphics wise it does look outstanding.
What do you guys think? :

    AMD A64 4000+,
    2 gig RAM
    Radeon X1800XT

Know it meets the rec. specs but that isn't always a good thing to go off
Also, is it one of those annoying games that require web activation? Since I don't have the web atm (phone line broken).

    Cheers.

    Re: COD4 - performance?

You should be able to run it on slightly lower settings, maybe reduce the AA and body count or something. It seems fairly scalable.

You don't need the internet to activate (to my knowledge) only to play multiplayer (obviously).

    Re: COD4 - performance?

Hmm .. might go buy it at lunch then
Need a good game to play.

Could always just crank up my 4000+ it's still at stock. The X1800XT won't go any higher than just below the max that the ATI overdrive will take it (unless I force full fan speed using ATI Tool, but thats just annoying ).

    Re: COD4 - performance?

I'd say it'll run pretty good. It seems to run well in general, with quite consistent fps. Compare that the Gears of War, which has massive ranges of fps for me.

I've been running COD4 on 1680*1050, with all settings and AA on maximum. Not checked fps in detail, but I can say it runs prefectly.

Theres no online activation. Just enter the serial on the back of the manual at the start of the install and away you go.

    Re: COD4 - performance?

Ran it with everything on max last night in 1024x768 on my TV (50" )... looks amazing and runs completely smooth (infact I saw some tearing even).

Looks as good, if not better than the 360/PS3 versions I saw running in the shop ..

Cranked up the FSB to 210 and the card to just below the max ATI overdrive will take it (I do have ATI tool but the card isn't so stable beyond the overdrive max). Had to loosen my memory timings though from CAS2 to 3 and 1T to 2T.. Using the Corsair XMS Pro stuff, is rated at CAS2 but pushing beyond 210 with the tight settings the motherboard seems to dislike and resets the FSB

Could always try running the demo:
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Demo - FileFront.com

I couldn't as I don't have the net at home at the moment
