Re: PCG UK - Crimbo Edition

Cool, thanks. Nice to see some realistic scores too!!!

I would love to know anything anyone can tell me about Tabula Rasa by the way. I saw a few beta leaks a while ago, and it sounded a bit lame. (Hellgate London kind of thing). But that looks like an impressive score there.

I would be interested to know why they gave that score to The Witcher too. I uninstalled it after playing it half way though... I didn't hate it or anything, I just didn't particularly like it. I quite liked some elements of it, but when I came across the 3rd major area, I just lost interest. I wonder if even just having a first person camera would have made a big difference for me. I feel so detached from games when I am looking down like that. Shame.

I'm due to buy a new game now anyway. I'm probably going to get FSX Acceleration, and Crysis. And then I will probably get UT3, Gears of War, COD4, the new Soldier of Fortune, next year.

Everyone is being hard on Sim City Societies. From the reader reviews over at Gamespot it looks like another great series has been ruined by the money machine - basic summary, no depth to the game whatsoever (no goals, no real transportation system, no balancing of industry and commerce, no neighbour deals, no regions, no real terrain options, etc) and nothing that distinguishes it as a Sim City game except the very basic element of building a city. Even the game's internal logic apparently makes no sense, i.e. big clocks increasing authoritarian points or something (there are 6 things to balance and apparently a monkey could do it).

I've seen a lot of online reviews that hated it. They said it was kind of fun - but only for about a weekend

    "Not fun as Two Worlds"

    ??! *splutters*

Guess Nick was right - marmite Interesting that they find it mysogonistic though - my GF absolutely loves The Witcher, and so do all the women I know that have seen it. Maybe an example of a bloke thinking a girl would find it offensive, without actually letting the girl decide

Acrobat - I run around in first person perspective most of the time - hold down the middle mouse button in the F2 view and use WASD to move - the camera shifts to first person. Doesn't work for combat, but it's fine for getting around.

Re: PCG UK - Crimbo Edition

Yeah I was doing that a lot too Just surprises me they didn't let us play it like that as an actual view. I'm kinda gutted I am not as sucked in to it as other people I don't know what it is, but I'm just a bit bored of it. I wish I knew why I wasn't a big fan of Two Worlds either, and yet for some reason, I played it longer than The Witcher. Oh well. Maybe I am just burned out by RPG's.

PC GAMER is arguable the worst PC gaming mag there is... why do people buy it? Some of those scores are just silly... The Witcvher has been universally acclaimed by critics and gamers alike. Kane & Lynch is flwed but by no means a bad game... definately a 75%+ imo.

PCZONE is in comparison about 100x better, balanced and respected reviews, and actually has some journalists who can write with some genuine flair and humour.

You have a very interesting definition of universal then. A few sites have given it around the 6/10 score, and Hexus' own review is very far from acclaimation.

Actually I think it's one of the best - the articles are usually very well written, with good vocabulary and grammar. They are sometimes very witty, they often look beyond the skin of something, and many of their articles are very apty chosen and good pieces of journalism. It's a complete rip off at 6 quid though.

I gave up on PC Zone because I found it too childish
