    Exclamation EA in financial trouble!

Someone I was chatting to said that EA was in financial trouble as many of it's newest games were not selling well and it's customers and best programmers were deserting the sinking ship. It would certainly explain a lot! The Sims 2: Bon Voyage is so full of serious bugs, it should never have shipped when it did, the lack of response to the infamous "nVidia" bug is shameful. Sim City Societies has also suffered a similar fate with no one being able to play the game for more than half an hour on average before it crashes and no comment from EA even to acknowledge the problem. EA have long been known for being greedy and churning out mass market products with bugs, but it seems to be reaching crisis point.

I have to admit to hoping this is true as maybe the Sims Franchise will get bought up by a more dedicated and trustworthy company.

Rubbish, TBH, there's no indication of investor worries - the share price is currently $54.09 (giving a market capitalisation of ~ $17bn), down a couple of dollars on most of October, but up from any point since ~ December 2006.

    Re: EA in financial trouble!

Although given the amount of badmouthing EA has been getting on forums such as this one, you could readily argue that something's gone wrong....smart investors watch customers, and when customers start getting upset with a company, that company is in trouble.

even if they had small financial problems this time of year they will make a killing

crysis the annual need for speed game sim cities and a new sims pack gonna make them some bucks plus all the 08 sports games (football nfl golf curling etc)

no matter how much i try to hate Ea they seem to release alot of the games i like

    It must be true then

Sadly EA regularly fill the top spots of the sales charts with endless cheap to produce repeats and sequels so I find it very hard to believe they aren't doing anything other than raking it in

    Re: EA in financial trouble!

I'm not too fond of EA since the support can be a bit dire. But they seem to own the licence to every game I have

In the past 12 months the only non-EA games I bought were:
ArmA (which is the buggiest POS I've played in a long time)
    Medieval II: Total War
    Supreme Commander
    CoH & CoH OF
    Orange Box

And I think that's it. Quite shocking really even to me now. Everything else has the 'EA' logo on. Even hellgate london that I got yesterday and doesn't 'look' EA at all (consoley), has got it's EA badge. THQ are the other big one with 3 of the above.

P.s. I buy tonnes of games, probably 2 a month or so.

    Re: EA in financial trouble!

    Thank goodness for Atari

(NWN2+expansion, Test Drive Unlimited, The Witcher)

In fact, nearly all my games aren't EA - Atari aside, THQ also feature quite highly, then 2K interactive. The last EA game I got was Need For Speed Underground 2

no, no they don't. Most serious investors are smart enough to know that the internet forums are not a fair representation of the target demographic, in any shape. People whine far more than they complement. Look at EA's 2y share price, look at the dip last summer, this year they are in far better shape with investor confidence wouldnt ya say?

Look at Microsoft, who have endless amount of people moaning about how bad vista is etc. Yet their share price isn't reflecting this mass moaning.

    Re: EA in financial trouble!

Aren't EA mostly a publishing house rather than software developers per se? For example, Warhammer Online, it's now being published by EA but the development hasn't changed much (apart from adding a few months to the release date)

Nah, I share your sentiment. As Bill Hicks would say, 'just another bunch of demons set loose on the Earth, to lower the standards'. I said it somewhere else a while ago, but sometimes I think the gaming industry needs to crash and burn before a better one can arise, but it's extremely unlikely.

However, to be pragmatic, if EA did go down the pan then the money that does get spent by them on the occasional decent title wouldn't happen, and the pool of money in the gaming industry in general would be much smaller, further reducing the chance of quality titles hitting the shelves.
