Do i need to Open Ports for COD 4 (Getting Very High Ping) Please Help

Have just purchased COD 4 and loving it, apart from the online gaming side as its not running very smooth....

I am getting about av 200ping which is piss poor in my eyes? What ping do you get or consider to be a playable and smooth Ping for online play?

Is there any thing i can do to help lower my ping? Like open up ports on the router? Change settings any where?

I am also using a static IP address, not sure if that makes ping any better or not?

If you have any bright ideas then I'm grateful for your time and Posts....

My connection but before entering game it showed the server ping or 30 and when in game it showed all the other player getting 25-80 ping.... and mine running at av 200 ping?

port forwards are only needed if hosting games or the games directly connect to each other to send data. nowadays its usually done through a middle man which is the server. its probably the server you chose.

could just be your distance relative to the server

Humm i had tried 3 -6 severs last night and all had high Ping apart from 2 so i guess it was just the server i was playing on. As the 2 servers that did not have high ping , i was getting 45-55 ping, which is more like it

I get poor lag in CoD4.

On games like CSS it's from 6ms to the teens, but in CoD it's anywhere between 65 - 130
