    360 Hardware Geeks

On the newer "Falcon" 360's the chips run cooler due to the newer 65nm cores, I also have noticed that the cooling has been changed, now, question is is the cooler on the original 90nm better or worse than the Falcon coolers, if so would it be possible to fit the cooler from the 90nm to the 65nm or vice versa?

Hmm, the falcon coolers don't feature a copper heatpipe, but then it doesn't need one.

AnandTech: Microsoft's Xbox 360 goes 65nm: Falcon Dissection and Power Consumption

Less power consumption = less heat.

    Re: 360 Hardware Geeks

The cooler would be suited to the 65nm, so if you put it onn a 90nm core, it wouldn't be able to handle the heat output.

He was talking about doing it the other way around, to get even lower temps on the 65nm version...

    Yup thats exactly it.

The quieter the better, also looking at changing the dive if needed to get a quieter one.

Wonder how a 360 would respond to a SSD drive?

Xbox.com | General Discussion - User Selectable Drive Speed

Regarding a Drive Speed adjustment proposal. That's where most of the noise comes from.

To be honest I can't really recommend modding your new 360, the falcon hardware is going to be at much lower CPU temps anyways which nullifies the need for any major modding regarding cooling. You could replace the back fans with quieter ones, but that's about it really.

It'll be replacing the Shuttle as the media streamer to the TV, if its quieter than that out of the box then there will be no modding required..

Looking forward to DivX support aswell huh?

To play DivX it doesn't need the CD drive so you're sound. and DVDs only play at 1x

Not natively. You need to get the serving PC to transcode on the fly... I understand is the best software to use at the moment.

Edit: Or wait, like MadduckUK says...
