Re: Game Of The Year 2007

It has to be The Witcher for me. First real breath of quality fresh air in RPGs for some time. Excellent first game and I hope we see more from the Studio soon.

Supreme Commander gets an honourable mention. Against the limited scale of the many RTS games in 2007, the epic magnitude and scope of SupCom (and its standalone expansion, Forged Alliance) really stand out - despite the very simple basics. Truly a simple to play, difficult to master game.

I enjoyed Bioshock and actually found it to be very polished and ran well. Good fun and mindless shooting, with a passable storyline. It wasn't as complex or free-form as I'd have liked, but for a shooter it was ok.

In terms of expansions, I found Shivering Isles a bit of a disappointment. It harks back to Morrowind's style of things which I enjoyed less than Daggerfall/Oblivions. Storyline was amusing, but more or less the same flaws from Oblivion were present, despite the time taken for the expansion to come out. Mask of the Betrayer on the other hand shows how good expansions can transform a game, being exactly the kind of experience that NWN2 should have been from the start.

I haven’t bought HL2 EP2, frankly I think the way it is being sold is disgraceful.
I can't believe that Valve have the nerve to say "If you don't want the other games in the Orange Box you can give your CD key to someone." after they made it nearly impossible to sell on the other games, then made you pay for a game to be removed from STEAM.

So can I vote this game worst of the year?

True but that only works if you don't own most the others.
This is where my gripe comes in.
All I really wanted was EP2 in a box for about £20 at most, I really didn't want any of the other stuff. Anyway it's just a whinge really.
I do love to whinge about something.

    Thanks for the replies guys

You can get the orange box from amazon for £17.97 delivered:

Amazon.co.uk: Half-Life 2: The Orange Box (PC DVD): PC & Video Games

I do see your point, it would be nice just to be able to get EP2 in a box by it self, I didn't want the other games either.

Hmm the best game of 2007.

That's easy it has to be the latest Amiga forever emulator.
The really old ones are always the best...
