Before I get started, I gotta point out that I can't stand turn-based games so my advice might not be the best!
That said, I think Blue Dragon might be the one for you. It's a game by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the chap who created Final Fantasy and I think it's exactly what you're looking for.
There should be a demo available on Live Marketplace for you to try for free too. I know there is because I tried the demo a while back. Wasn't bad but turn based games just aren't for me. Give it a go though, I think you'll like it.
The very good news is that it can be purchased for less than £25 from most online retailers. :)
Or £9.99 if you're lucky. :)
i looked at that but it was a bit too disney for my liking anything else about
cheers for the suggestion though
Eternal Sonata is very similar apparently. It's only 19.99 from Atari direct if you get it soonish (see bargains).
But how can you turn it down for £9.99? I don't like it but for that price even I'm tempted!
Other RPGs are Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, Mass Effect. Not sure if the first two are already out though?
There aren't many RPG games on the 360, it seems to focus heavily on FPS games. I would suggest trying the demo of Blue Dragon though, people who like RPG games seemed to think it was really good.
beware demos, they can give a poor impression
blue dragon is a very traditional jrpg - given the guys who worked on it, that's no surprise (the designer of final fantasy i -> x-2, the character designer from chrono trigger and dragon quest, the composer from final fantasy ii -> xii). other options would be eternal sonata, enchanted arms, or (eventually) lost odyssey.
thanks directhex had a look at some vids and reviews and am gonna try and get my hands on enchanted arms
