    Most disappointing game?

Not in terms of storyline but more in terms of layout, where cutscenes occur etc...

I'll start the ball rolling with a recent game I've been playing on....

FF3 on DS, after 3 hours of leveling up my guys and gathering plenty of gold and weapons waiting for the next character to join my party, I go into a dungeon/cave and beat a boss..
Can you guess what happens next......

the credits roll *wtf* was what I thought - all that work for nothing but then the game continued as usual.....

    *rant* over, your turn guys
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

    Re: Most disappointing game?

Deus Ex 2. Deus Ex was an awesome game, perfect mix of strategy and action, great UI etc etc..Then some idiot decided to design the sequal for consoles first and simply port it to PC.

The result? An immensely dumbed down game with a nasty, over simplified interface, tiny levels and no strategy left to speak of.

X-Men 2: Wolverine's Revenge. Never had a game I finished so quickly before, even on the hardest difficulty it took me less than 4 hours till I finished it.

    Re: Most disappointing game?

For me it has to be Crysis. Poor AI and actually quite linear I found start to finish, very short also in comparison to Farcry.

Followed by Bioshock due to technical issues only, story, setting and visuals are superb. Granted this is also one of my favourite games of 07, I just wish that they would get it fixed for Vista users. Then I will gladly remove it from the dissapointing pile!

Finally Hellgate did dissapoint me, I followed this from early stages of development. I love the outdoor areas but the constant tunnels that you have to go through for secondary quests gets tedious pretty quickly. I will play through it though as it does keep my interest for short bursts.

    Re: Most disappointing game?

    World of Warcraft.

Mostly just problems related to the fact it's a trial account I'm sure.

I joined the 'recommended' realm for starting a character, but most of the time can't log in because of queues, when I can I can't party up with my friends who are also trailing the game, and as a solo game it's pretty dull and unrewarding.

I'm sure the full game is better, but no way am I going to jump into something so expensive having had a bad experience of it during the trial.

    Re: Most disappointing game?

Maybe I am being unfair, but I didn't enjoy Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil. Unfair because I stopped playing after not getting far. But to be honest, I think that I enjoyed Doom 3 less than I wanted to (Quake 4 was the opposite for me).

    Re: Most disappointing game?

Where to start?! It's been a bumper year for utter stinkers. In top position for me - Soldier Of Fortune Three. What a disappointment following the previous two!

Assassins Creed certainly didn't live up to the hype! IMO overly simplistic game play coupled with a lack of replay value resulted in over-hyped "shell of a game".

I know many will disagree with this, but I'd hoped that Halo 3 was going to offer new features/game play etc… and not just the incremental step that HAlo 2 represented. Instead I got updated graphics with a re-hash of the previous Halo’s selling points… It’s a solid title – but I had hoped for more from what’s supposedly a “genre leader”!

    Re: Most disappointing game?

    Unreal Tournament 3.

If you have previous versions, don't bother going for the new one. To me it feels flat, uninspiring, boring and unexciting. I just had a game of Vehicle CTF and I had to quit it because it was just so boring. If you're new UT, which I doubt very few experienced gamers are, then you may well like it, but for the rest of us, it's the same old thing as before, but clad in a new engine. An engine which I don't think looks all that impressive in UT3 despite what others have said about it...

I feel that Epic made better visual use of UE3 in GOW and other developers who use UE3 have made better use of the engine than what Epic have on UT3 imo. Mass Effect (which uses UE3) for example looks much better than UT3 does. UT3 just looks messy, blurry, too dark and the HDR stuff is just plain crap. All of these faults shall we say results in a visual experience thats just confusing and a flat to me. To add to this the explosions are the worst I have seen by a very long margin in a modern game. To me they lack volume and just look flat and 2D.

Oh and the hellbender vehicle, despite being front wheel drive actually feels like it steers from a pivot point at the back of the model. This results in a steering mechanism which just feels very odd, loose and hard to control. To add to this not much thought has gone into innovating where new weapons and style of play are concerned. Like the game as a whole most of the weapons (and the vehicles for that matter) are exactly the same as before and operate in pretty much the same way.

How it has made it into the top 10 of any "best game" list is beyond me. Overall I'm very disappointed with it.
