    2D Shoot Em Ups on X-Box360, PS-3, Wii…

    2D Shoot Em Ups on X-Box360, PS-3, Wii…

Well. It’s been well over a year since the X-Box 360, PS-3 & Wii were released, but not a single game for these consoles has caught my eye to justify buying any of the three so far.

I’m an old-school gamer, I prefer 2D Shoot Em Ups like R-Type & Gradius, Ikaruga, Raiden, Parodius. But so far to my knowledge, none of this genre has been released on any of the 3 consoles?!
And no, all those 2D downloadable games for a 5$-10$ fee don’t count. I want a full retail game released on disc media!

So, which of the three systems has a better chance of getting 2D Shoot Em Ups to spend my hard earned money on?!

    Thanks in advance.

Retro, does it have to be one of the aforementioned consoles?

From the sounds of things, I'm thinking a Nintendo DS might be ideal.

why do you want a full retail game on disc media?

it's a genre that doesn't sell, not in the west anyway. if a publisher can choose between a japan-only disc release or a global online release, what's the shame in an online release? hell, the wii virtual console has some of the most classic (and underrated) examples of the genre available, such as r-type 3 and gradius 3. ikaruga and raiden 4 would be examples coming to xbox live arcade

As with directhex, I'm not entirely sure why the $5 - $10 downloadable titles don't count?

In terms of those, I think the Xbox Live Arcade on the 360 is ideal too. Geometry Wars is about as good as 2D shooters go, it's seriously awesome.

xbox360 live arcade gets my vote!

Brilliant that you can get Super Puzzle Fighter!!! With a few new modes to boot too!

I'm sure the PSP has a few really good 2D shoot 'em up games...but that may have been on my friend's J-Spec PSP (no idea if this has an effect on games bought/used).

Well for one reason, the MS & Wii Download services and Sony Network are not available where I live, so I wont be able to get anything!

I all ready own Gradius 3, R-Type3, Ikaruga for their real home consoles, but I would be really interested for Raiden IV!

I would prefer a console that you can hook up to a TV, rather than a handheld, but what 2D shooters does the DS & PSP have?

Geometry Wars? I've never heard of this?
    What system?

you can buy quite a few PS1 games from the online store on the PS3 which also upscale the titles - that might be a good place to start and i think they only cost like £4 a game, i know its not 2d but i got 'G-Police' from there as i LOVED it on the ps1 so check it out

there's always a certain degree of retreading with these things. it's not always a bad thing. i'm eagerly awaiting the widescreen, HD, 5.1 port of Rez to xbox live arcade

What about Gradius VI? (Gradius 6)
I remember reading an article almost 2 years ago, that it was supposed to be under development by Konami & Treasure for the SONY PS-3?!

Omega Five certainly does look awesome, but then again, I could expect nothing less from Natsume!
