    Re: dos games on vista?

    I'm not a Vista user, but a quick check through some pages at the ScummVM site (scummvm.org) suggests that it works fine with the more recent OS. If you're not familiar with ScummVM, it's basically a matter of transferring certain game files onto your system and directing ScummVM to the directories that you keep each game's files in (use separate directories, of course). Both ScummVM's README.txt and the Web site will tell you which files are needed and it's a simple matter of configuring graphics and sound options in ScummVM's basic front-end. There's a comprehensive Wiki site and an active forum that, should you need further guidance, you'll easily find from the main page.

    Hope that helps!

    i'd use dosbox DOSBox, a x86 emulator with DOS so long as you're using x86 and not x64 vista

    i wouldn't. i'd use scummvm, as mentioned by andy572, which will play any scumm game (e.g. DOTT) fine, and even enhance the graphics and sound for you

    1) create a folder somewhere on disk with the following DOTT data files:
    * MONSTER.SOU
    * TENTACLE.000
    * TENTACLE.001
    and an empty folder called MANIAC

    2) load ScummVM, click Add Game, and point to the DOTT folder you made

    3) if you want to save disk space, there's a utility on the scummvm website which can recompress MONSTER.SOU using mp3 or vorbis compression.

    edit: you DO know lucasarts still sell DOTT, and downloading it is piracy, right?

    Re: dos games on vista?

    DOSBOX works with Vista 64 too evidently.

    ScummVM is the way to go for these Scumm games though.
