    Re: Next gen upgrade

what games you looking to play

pc wise if its crysis etc you are looking at £700-1500 for a good pc

the 360 is the best value for money with a good catalogue of games

the ps3 on paper is the best console but on paper england are a good football team

i have a 360 for driving games etc and the pc for fps games

so alot depends on the games you wanna play

    Re: Next gen upgrade

I want to play online a fair bit so unless the Playstation network picks itself up the 360 wins thanks to live.I play pretty much anything so the 360 looks tempting with its large catalogue of games, but a mystical force seems to be dragging me to the PS3!!

    Re: Next gen upgrade

when i chose between the 360 and ps3 i went purely for the games i liked i had to sacrifice GT5 at a later date but got forza 2 and pgr4 on the 360 as compensation along with dead rising and enchanted arms

so weigh up the games that are out now it's no good buying a 360 or a ps3 for a game that will be out soon because games never come out on time

although the ps3 blu-ray drive may be a clincher for you as hd-dvd drive for 360 is £110

Would a £700 base unit(PC) be able to keep up with the PS3/360 power wise?

    Re: Next gen upgrade

If its for gaming, get a 360 Elite. This is the best deal at the moment.

Don't listen to anyone else, and buy a 360 Elite. Anything else you do will be a) foolish, and b) wrong.

Thats just the way it is at the moment. Its not anti-Sony, pro-Microsoft, or anything else. Its just the truth.

360 Elite for HD \ Online gaming.

    Wii for fun gaming.

Wii's are fun for about a week then they get a bit boring (my opinion) Any views on PC/360 power comparisons?

And when you do get a 360, get LEGO Star Wars. Its the bestest.

well the old 360's had (i think) 203w PSU's. the newer ones are apparently 175w. so thats a rough guide

    Re: Next gen upgrade

oh right, in that case dont worry about comparing them like that. its absolutely pointless and you will never be able to "a 360 has the capabilities of a pc with xxx spec". way too many factors

its all aobut the games anyway

Well, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 360 uses one of these

    And PCs.....don't.

the GPU in the 360 is a custom ATI job named Xenos, which runs 500MHz and 48 unified pipelines, with tech which later spawned R600.

it's not a voodoo5. if you REALLY want to compare it to a PC card, it's about 20% faster than an HD2400 pro. but that's VERY rough, and ignores MANY factors

look at it a better way - what GPU & CPU runs games like bioshock at 1280x720 on high detail with no slowdown?

    Re: Next gen upgrade

Playstation network is great - not sure what you mean by pick itself up. Maybe you refer to the ps2? Not sure if you have tried the ps3 online, but have had no problems gaming on the ps3. Warhawk with 32 players/ Motorstorm/Tekken online/fifa2008 etc and of course all part of a FREE service .

Once you have played games like Gran Turismo 5: Prologue/Ratchet clank: Tools of Destruction/Uncharted, and with MGS4 on the way it really is a "no brainer" when deciding on a next gen console

Have fun with what ever you choose

the 360 allows me to be playing a game, see a friend come online, and switch to the same game with him. the ps3 doesn't

the 360 allows me to switch on, see what my mates are playing, and join in a match in progress with my chosen friend. the ps3 doesn't

the 360 lets me just chat with my mates if i'm busy playing my own thing. the ps3 doesn't

notice a pattern? the psn might be adequate for your needs, but it is SIGNIFICANTLY inferior, and any suggestion otherwise is blinkered.

at least it's better than nintendo's joke of a service
