    Nostalgia time

I feel old. One of the girls at work is 21 today, and someone mentioned how, when they were 21, they looked like a member of Bros.

"What's a Bros?" asked the girl.

About half of us fell totally silent. How can you not know about Bros? wow.

Anyway, I'm wallowing in classic games now. Put your hands up if you own AND STILL PLAY any of the following:

    You Don't Know Jack
    Gabriel Knight werewolf game
    Star Wars: Behind The Magic
    Blood 2
    Shogo MAD division

    Re: Nostalgia time

I downloaded Netstorm the other day, used to play it when I was 15... and I've just inherited an Amiga 500 on which to play Lemmings and other wicked games I used to have.

    Retro gaming revival!

    Re: Nostalgia time

Oddly enough, I've just been reminded of downloading my first emulator at uni. I recall telling my mate Andy about it. He looked puzzled

"so... you've got a program that makes your PC behave like a BBCB?"
    "Yeah"
"Which is really slow and obsolete"
    "Well... yeah."
    "What a f***ing stupid idea."

I still play Shogo. One of my deepest wishes (apart from, like, the ones with Carmen Luvana or something) involves them remaking it with the FEAR engine (both Lithtech).

    Re: Nostalgia time

I love old school gaming... I have fully stocked emulators for the SNES, MegaDrive and even an Amiga emulator...

I remember playing Alien Breed on the CD32 too - that was a decent game.

But hell, I go way, way back - my first computer was a Vic 20 and my first game Horace Goes Skiing!

    Re: Nostalgia time

We're all going to get busted for talking about emulators....

I'm not playing any golden oldies, but since my kid got a Nintendo DS I'm having a hell of a time playing Mario World and Sonic the hedgehog. They've got to count for something as they're still old platformers...

    Re: Nostalgia time

3d Monster Maze on the ZX81 was my first ever home computer game...

I was thinking about all the hours I put into Elite on the Commodore 64 (I got to Deadly, damaged my tape and then got back up to Dangerous but no further.) I used to love Beachead and Gunship on it too. Then Speedball on the Amiga 500 and Settlers on it (and the 1200) then Wing Commander on the PC.

Speaking of feeling old I was talking with two of the lads from work the other day about driving tests. When I mentioned mine was in 1989 one of them said "I wasn't even born then."

    I'm 36.

I remember playing Elite on my BBC (along with dozens of other, crappy games), it was so far above my head at that age but I still enjoyed it.

    Re: Nostalgia time

Talk of old skool gaming makes me feel giddy, but it's not just quality gaming it's the memories of being a kid. I remember in the Xmas hols in about 1986 playing Mrs Mop (amoungst others) and just thinking HELL when is it going to be Christmas day!!! The chore of 6 or so days of nothing to do but game

Now I get dead excited when I get a day to myself and can crack on with a 'marathon session'!!!!!!

For me finest retro games I STILL enjoy:

    Quazatron/Paradroid
    Chuckie Egg
    Super Mario series

My very first watercooled PC project log

click, click, click, clunk click, click, click, clunk click, clunk click,

Morbid i know, but I used to love the little priest struggling in his chains noise...

Netstorm rocked, I believe there's still some servers up somewhere so I'm gonna re-teach myself how to play
