I have AC on the dusty 360 and indeed it is a good looker and all that... But I don't understand the parity here - the 360 has no where near this amount of grunt so does that mean that the PC version is getting some 'extras'? Better textures, more geometry etc etc? Of course AC is a 360 game ported to PC, but these two architectures are not a million miles apart.

it's the best game i've played for along time - in the end i think many people got a different game to what they expected/wanted

Sounds like another lazy port is in the works...no doubt if they had a proper try at re-engineering large parts of the game for the PC those specs would come down, but we all know how rare that sort of dedication is..Which is a shame as it looks like a great, fun game.

How is a port from a directX9 game to dx10 only lazy?

It sounds lazy because they are asking for such high system requirements for a game that runs so well on older, slower hardware.

AC runs just fine on the consoles - and thats because its been heavily optimised for them and designed to work on consoles..the PC is similar but a different beast all together when it comes to what optimisations to make.

The could make it run very nicely on mid specced machines if they put in the work - but its just easier to re-write a bit of the code which needs to be changed, add in a few more api calls to make it work with DX10 and then you have a working PC version. (I know im over simplifying this and I couldnt do a port myself, but hopefully you get my point)

We saw a similar thing with lots of games in the past - the highest profile ones that come to mind are Halo, Deux Ex 2 and Thief 3 - all games that ran nicely on their consoles but needed really high spec PCs to play smoothly on launch.

let's be fair here, it's much easier to optimize for a console (where you only have 1 spec, and can tune for it) than for a generic platform like a pc. both current-gen consoles are multi-core at 3.2ghz, so what's a reasonable requirement for pc? it won't get less hungry as it becomes less optimized. the only "mad" bit really is the RAM, and that's a design issue really - whilst consoles are happy to stream content from the disc as you play, pcs tend to freeze for a moment when a cd spins up, so you can understand why they'd simply load the lot into ram on a free-roaming game

Damn might need a RAM upgrade for this... luckily I have above the recommended spec on everything else... Lets hope it turns out to be less RAM dependant than initially thought.
