    my microsoft support ROD fight

I've got an xbox 360 that decided to have fit and produce a ROD. I turned off the console followed the Microsoft crappy guide to not having it returned to their center policy. I called stating my console kept freezing coming up with GPU Graphical errors but no red ring.

After speaking to her she said it will cost £55, this was my time to start having a moan. I was on the phone for 45 mins explaining about my knowledge of the problem, bad heat-sinks, BBC watchdog etc.

Still she said i needed to pay £55, I said "I'm not paying that for a refurbished console with a design fault".

I asked her "If i had an ROD would get a free repair?" she said "yes"

So i said "we both agree that something hardware base is causing the the problem" "Yes" she said.

she then said "so it will cost you £55 pounds to get it repaired" I said do you know about the consumer goods act

    I used these points

    # Goods must be fit for purpose, including any purpose you specifically mention to the seller. Fit for purpose is a great phrase - always use it, as it oftens triggers escalation to the next level of service. They must also be "of reasonable quality" which is another great phrase to quote at people.

    # You have the right to reject faulty goods and obtain a refund, replacement, or repair. This is up to a "reasonable" time, but reasonable is not defined in law as it depends on circumstances. For example, if you buy a new laptop but don't use the wireless networking, only to find six months later when you first try it that it doesn't work, you're perfectly entitled to reject the goods and ask for a replacement. EVEN IF YOU SIGN AN ACCEPTANCE NOTE, YOU DON'T LOSE YOUR RIGHTS.

She still said her company policy rubbish

Get the manager "he's in another department" i Then said " I don't care I got time to wait on a free phone number"

So manager came on an i quoted the sales of goods act, he automaticlly gave in. I got my free repair

He said " i needed to box it up"
I said " I don't have a box for the size of the console"
He said i will send you a "free box"
I said "a box" I mean more like some points for wasting my time. Got 800 points supposedly being sent out to me.

Not bad for a hours work...

I'm going to have to phone MS back, got my 360 back after repair on Wednesday, but when I set it back up the picture looks grey, like the contrast is set way to high (I've adjusted the contrast on the monitor to see if I can at least get a passable picture but no luck). good luck with yours.

The thing is that Microsoft no that their old batch of consoles without the new falcon chipset or new heatsink design are prone to problems so they should have 3 years cover red-ring or not.
