I remember the Medusa craze from a few years back, just wondering if there has been any developments and whether or not they've got it right yet?

I have a set of Medusa's. They are pretty good. I think Razor has brought some out, they are really expensive though.
And they're crap imho. Poorly built, with average quality sound.

Ok lets look at a couple of things that are flawed with them.
1) Build quality. The screws that hold the actual ear pieces in aren't strong, and in time they come loose. I've had to gaffer tape them together just to hold the one side in place. The cabling around the volume control is simply slid into the box itself - no glue or anything to hold it in place. If the volume control slips off your lap, the pulling on the cable eventually exposes the wires themselves. It doesn't take long for this to happen - again gaffer tape to the rescue. The LEDs in the ear pieces as well gave up not long after their arrival too.
2) Surround headphones in general and sound quality - you cannot get a proper surround sensation when the speakers in the cans are so close to your ears. For my head they simply weren't far enough back. Compared to the front speakers as well the rears were woefully lacking in bass. If you get an audio file with a circular motion around you, the only way you know if they're behind is because all the bottom end frequencies drop away. You shouldn't really be able to notice a change in the quality of the sound, just the location if they did their job properly.
3) Microphone - unless you have the matching AC-1 card, the mic is completely useless because of the impedence of it. If you have an Audigy or similar the mic is unusable since its sensitivity can't be turned up high enough. Plug a mic from the pound shop in, and it works perfectly. If mine are the only ones exhibiting this problem, refer to point 1 again...
Certainly not worth the asking price in my opinion. A shame really since I like Razers products and have used their mice for years and years.![]()

are there any other headphones which you would recommend (surround or stereo)?
To be honest, generally I use a pair of Beyerdynamic DT100's because I'm a sound engineer and I use them a lot at work. They're not the best ever headphones in the world, but they're pretty damn good and very comfortable. Also they're virtually bullet proof as well and if a part breaks, you can simply order the part from Beyer - so they're easy to fix.
Back to surround stuff though, there are a pair out there that I'd like to try but they seem too cheap to be true.

No idea what they're like mind - but I'm curious.![]()

i personally have a set of medusas. and as long as you have the neck muscles of a heavyweight boxer they are great.
Mine snapped in two places. My friends amp stopped working. Build quality on the medusas is poor (mine 'snapped' well just broke, not a vicious snap - imagine bending a piece of plastic 1000 times, when I was just listening to them. the right ear came loose and that was it)
Lowe: when my volume control cover broke off, the cables are actually held down with masking tapebut that was just my set. They really are ridiculous lol.
Agreed with all your points completely actually. I only ever used them as stereo because the surround sound was so poor. But I did manage to get the mic working, at full sensitivity with +10db boost.
