    Mass Effect - Seriously.

I've never had this problem with a game. It looks great, I'm sure its all adult and sophistikated, but there is something can't put my finger on, something about the game that bores the balls off me within 20 seconds.

I've owned it for a month now, and 4 or 5 times I've sat down to start playing, and I've still not got the achievement for completeing Eden Prime, which is right at the start.

I can not be arsed with it. But it looks good.

How did they manage to make it good and mind meltingly boring?

I don't even know why its so boring, hen I start a session I'm up for it, 2 minutes later I'm playing something else.

    Spooky.

    Re: Mass Effect - Seriously.

It certainly is a major step back from KOTOR or Jade Empire......... but it deserves to be taken beyond Eden prime. Just be a man and power through the crap , remember Taris (KOTOR) or dare i say the Mining station from KOTOR2? both pretty awful bits.

I'm still on the mining facility on KOTOR2. I was, to be honest, losing the will to live. Does it get better?

    Re: Mass Effect - Seriously.

The main story of Mass Effect is fairly decent. The side plots suck heavily and are incredibly dull. The weapons and armour are pretty crap too - you don't see any effects with your upgrades so why bother?

Agree with Bluecube. The main story line was pretty engaging and I enjoyed playing through it. I stopped doing the rinse and repeat side quests very early on and I have a hate cave in my heart for the bloody driving sections... I'm all alone this weekend so may have another delve through it.

I agree, with so much pedigree it's hard to see how Bioware came up with such an unispired game. Plot was ace though, maybe they should just have published a novel instead.

I agree, nowhere near as great as KOTOR. I hated the combat in it.

Yes, but it never gets to KOTOR levels of greatness. I never actually finished KOTOR2, the ending was such a mess when i died i didnt bother reloading.

    Re: Mass Effect - Seriously.

I enjoyed it at first, then realised everything I could do involved driving a stupid handling car over a boring planet to kill a few enemies, and repeat.

Nowhere near as good as I was hoping.

Did you do the side quests to do with the organisation that sends out creatures around the galaxy for ****s and giggles? I thought those were great, at the start it seemed like any other side quest but the same name kept popping up everywhere and I was like "Damn you *insert name*!"

    Re: Mass Effect - Seriously.

i think i know why. its trying to hard to be too many things. it wants to be a huge rpg with endless things to explore. it wants to be an rpg where the game will be swayed in your favour/their favour by what stats you update. it wants to be a 3rd person shooter. it would does all 3 well, but together it just doesnt

Heh - following your post and a free weekend I went back and had another go and paid more attention to the side quests. Glad I did now That story line you refer to was pretty cool. The missions were still pretty rinse and repeat but the overall context made them fun. I also found a load more stuff going through the second time - Looking forward to the new downloadable content when that makes its debut (anyone have an idea as to when that is going to be)??

    Re: Mass Effect - Seriously.

I picked this game up on Friday. I'm about 13 hours into it and am starting to feel the drag.

I'm detemind to keep going so I can complete it but I can relate as to why some people are finding it quite dull.

    Re: Mass Effect - Seriously.

Well, I am around 11 hours in and I am quite enjoying it to be honest. I think its better than Kotor and the combat is better than I expected. My main criticism is that the menus are fairly poor in places, the upgrades and equipment screen in particular and the Mako does handle quite badly. That being said the Mako is not so bad it would make me stop playing, but it can be annoying to take a dive off a large cliff because it didn't reverse the way you expected it to. I think I will see this one through, I have a game of Kotor 2 saved on my PC from my second attempt at that (started it a week before I picked up Mass Effect) and I know I won't even look at that again until I finish Mass Effect. I think its awesome.

Just wait until you've played essentially the same side mission a few dozen times... It's not a bad game, they've obviously put in a massive amount of work fleshing out their universe. It's just that it all gets a bit repetative after a while, similar missions similar goals, similar rewards. I've played it through once and I'm planning to play it through again (mostly to get the achievements) once I get it back from my mate.
