    What's best for this....

My and my friend's have just decided to have a LAN party... using our brand new, Vista computers.

Lowest spec is: 2.2ghz dual core, 2 GB RAM, 6400 GeForce Video Card, 20x CD Drive.

We've all got network cards and wires, and I've got a modem, so that isn't the problem. The problem is: we don't have enough CDs for ANY game (other than AoE II - which I pwned them all 5v1 at last time) to be played with more than about 2 players.

So we pooled together our money... and they gave it to me to go and buy some nice games to play... What games are best for this sort of thing?

We can play just about every single game that is available atm (exceptions include Crysis, Assassin's Creed (if it's out.. I saw the specs for it a while back) and a few other brand new games.)

There's 6 of us at most (all using Vista) and we'll have to buy multiple disks of most games... We prefer Everyone Versus Everyone games (no alliances) but we occasionally team up to 3v3 or 2v4.

We already have the following games:

    C&C: Tiberium Sun (6 disks)
AoE II: The Conquerors (2 disks, but you can take them out and stick 'em in diff comps)
    C&C: Red Alert (6 disks)
BF 2: Complete Collection (5 disks... and we're not sure if it's possible to play over LAN)
Battle for MiddleEarth II (3 or 4 disks)

Couple of other strat games that are about 5-10 years old... oh - and Worms:Armageddon!!!

I did wonder about seeing when Halo Wars came out and getting that for PC (6 disks) and then us all playing it first time at this LAN party.... it would be interesting, but not sure when it's out, or wether it's LAN compatible.

No, we can't play over the internet, becuase 5 of our computers aren't allowed to be connected to the internet (parents won't let us 'till we're 18... so we can't "borrow" a connection anyhow.) The only person w/ internet only has it becuase he has permission from his neighbours to use their wireless internet on his laptop.. lucky little beggar

I've never heard of a geforce 6400 before.

You might get away with supreme commander if you're willing to turn the graphics down (or play in cartographic view) - it's a fantastic lan game though, as you can do the all v all or 3v3 etc.

    Re: What's best for this....

Supreme Commander is a good one, last Lan I had mostly consisted of that.

Garry's Mod for Half-Life 2/ CSS is also quite entertaining, building your own contraptions and battling it out, and it's only a fiver. Although you would all need to be connected to the internet to get it in the first place. If you can't get online for steam, Counter Strike : Condition Zero could be an option.

    UT2004/Quake 4

Dawn of War/Company of Heroes are also good ones to try.

That's pretty much all I've played at Lan's, and world of warcraft on a private server, but that was a pain in the arse to set up.

you can pick up the classic blizzard strategy games for three quid a pop at hmv, and they're still better than most more recent games

    Re: What's best for this....

I have to say that at work when its quiet the game we still play most is CC Red Alert, maybe cause it works fine on any hardware (i.e basic office PC's) or just because its still such a fun game

CC: RA is quite good... any idea where you can get extra disks for it? We already have 2 (from one packet ) but we'll need more I think..
