Anyone planning to get Frontlines: Fuel of War?

So I just noticed a pop up ad for this game and it looks immense!

But surely it can't be all that good? It's coming out today according to some sources, but we probably wont get it until later on this week.

Squad based combat, loads of neat little gadgets like deployable UAVs / tracked drones with machine guns - scanners, anti-missile systems on some vehicles, inter vehicle targetting systems (so if your mate in a vehicle tags a vehicle, you can 'wallhack' to see it on your hud)... it looks like BF2 on win-steroids.

But I'm slightly concerned that it's either going to be buggy as hell or something. Has anybody played the demo (for XBL, I'll be getting steam version) or the beta? Any reports?

Many games that promise the earth are a let down (ArmA) due to poor implementation, and I can't help feeling since this is THQs first stab at conquering EA's squad-based-urban-fps crown that it's going to stumble over itself, not for lack of ingenuity but for polish and shine or some other annoying thing like that (broken net code, hackers, you name it).

So whilst I want to buy it the second I can on steam, I'm also nervous about wasting my money on a game that doesn't deliver... thoughts?

Its alright really, seems a bit cartoony but is quite good fun.

Its made by the people who made the Desert Combat mod for BF1942 so it should be the best game ever made..... i mean rather good, i couldnt help feeling a bit disappointed with the demo but still decent enough.

First impressions on the main forum someone said it's like the fun of BF1942 / BF2 but with the extra features and no annoying things. I'm waiting for release, it should be on steam today, but steam release date normally means midnight EST so that's 5am on the 28th for us isn't it?

I'll post back with what I think, hopefully it will live up to the promise. Lots of Xbox gamers are saying not enough servers atm (since the dedicated servers are run by THQ to allow 50 players instead of the usual 16 or so). Clan and stats haven't been implemented yet (sigh, another publisher pushing games out before they're finished... ah well, at least it's playable - stats are more of an extra anyway)

edit: on steam forums someone has described it as a mix of 'cod4 and battlefield 2'. And that's just gotta be winsauce, no?

No, it wont arrive in UK stores until around the 29th. It shipped from America on the 25th, American stores got it today and we get it Friday. We should have been able to buy off steam on Monday, but something went wrong somewhere, so they said 'sorry, 27th', but today they've innocuously changed it to the 29th.

It's good, got potential, but don't buy it yet. It's really really really buggy. There was a patch out on the day of release because some people couldn't even launch the game. Hopefully the issues will be fixed, it's a load of fun with different strategies - be better with bigger / more bf2 like maps - atm there are practically no helicopter maps just relatively small 30 man capture the blown up town maps a la cod4.

There is only one map in the game featuring the jets... but we'll have to see. Some of the quirks are brilliant. Think levelling like in cod4, but you get powers like in c&c generals, but they start from 0 every game, and you get to choose a 'tree' so to speak.

Go with the air strike tree. Fuel air bomb for the ****ing win! Takes out tanks, enemy infantry, vehicles, turrets, buildings, me (I was hiding what I thought was a good distance away it's basically a mini nuke lmao).

It changes the dynamic which is good. I don't know why, I just really like this game even if it is horribly busted atm and unfinished - that's a big point. But they're being patched in to both the PC and X Box version.

The 21st Century Warfare tournament has abandoned BF2 and has moved over to this.
They've tested it extensively in Beta and found it good enough for serious tournament play.

Got it for PC, have only had a quick go at it. Its not bad, although controls to me seem a bit sluggish, but perhaps thats because I have ultra sensitivity on UT3!

I played the demo and I have to admit I really didn't like it. It felt like another BF rip off with nothing new to offer. I appreciate the fact that the demo may have been just a bad, buggy example but from what I experianced there was nothing which drew me in.
