Pc gaming touched my heart again.

Well, I decide to buy an xbox360 and i can't fault it.(only red rings)

Now i haven't gamed on pc for about nearly two years. I've purchased a 32" Samsung HD-Ready television and built a HTPC. so i thought let me reinstall Hl2 and use my 360 controller, It worked perfectly.

Having a X1800XL i ran HL2 @1360*768 with 6AA and 16AF and my god did it look clean, Reminded me why when i was 16 i used to spend all my pay on pc parts. I was in a real clan(German one ) we used to practice on CS: S and i was really good.

Why did i leave pc gaming? Only because their wasn't a decent controller, and it was expensive. Now im nearly 20 and have more income i think i might take it back up.

I think they need to mark what games are compatible with the xbox360 Pad, as i would buy pc games if they could make mapping my controller easier and graphics cards scale better.

Where are you with pc gaming?

Summed up pretty much how I feel. Games look and play amazing on a 360 or PS3 respectively making spending the money on PC's hard to justify now.

    hmmm

I love both console and PC to be honest....

    PC for fps/mmorg

    and

    PS3 for Beatem ups/racing/arcade games.

I know what you mean about expense - keeping up with top-end PC gaming is not the cheapest to say the least, but i just find each platform has its on strengths and weaknesses which can not be ignored.

    eg...
HL2 orange box? sorry no way on a console - PC with M+Kb please.

but equally - GT5: Prologue/Tekken DR on PC? even if available - no way.

Both platform's are close to my heart

Love both too. PC is amazing for toolsets and creating mods. Consoles are the best for party games

If you have enough poppy, buy a decent PC and enjoy the best gaming experience. Someone above made the comment 'spending the money on PC's hard to justify now.'. Spending money on Cif over Tesco's eat-it-on-the-way-round oven cleaner makes a similar argument.

both products do the same job, though

the real issue i have with the majority of pc gaming is just how much faf it is for no gain. crashy drm, inexplicable performance issues, brokenness on certain oses or processors, endless driver incmpatibilities, and all for what? to run bioshock at a lower framerate than a £200 xbox

sorry, but much as it's *possible* to get the best *looking* version of games, all to often the actual act of playing them only tells half the story

But one smells of flowers and Bambis' laughter and doesn't burn your fingers.

I do take your point and would agree to an extent but personally I'm happy tweaking and eeeking extra FPS out of Crysis, thats half the fun for me.

Re: Pc gaming touched my heart again.

For me it is best of both worlds if you play games on both platforms.

PC is much better when it comes to RPG's and the shooters. Console all the way though for the action games.

Assasins Creed on the 360 is awesome, control is so easy to get to grips with, not sure how it would actually fare with the keyboard & mouse though. When you are trying to pull off combos during the fights on a pad it is really easy, don't think it would be as fluent on the PC though with keyboard control.

But then take a game like The Witcher or Neverwinter Nights, due to the required keyboard settings I think they would end up more like a hack & slash similar to Baldurs Gate on the PS2 if they are on a console pad. Technically Mass Effect on the 360 is more a 3rd person action game with a few RPG elements rolled into it for good measure, it works though and I feel it is a great game.

Another good thing with RPG's on the PC is that most the time they don't require an extremely top end PC to get them up and running in at least 1024x768 with all details maxxed out. Let the consoles have the games like Devil May Cry and Assasins Creed and keep the PC for the RPG's and shooters. Don't even go there with Crysis though, it requires so much power I will be surprised if an above average can run it how the developers wanted it this time next year!

Your PC isnt very new though tbh. You can build a PC now that will run bioshock ar any other new game cept maybe crysis very nicely indeed for around £400. That's the price of an xbox 360, extra controller and a couple of games.

Re: Pc gaming touched my heart again.

I'm with Hexeh on the whole Bioshock thing. Runs like a dog on a lot of PC's especially moreso that the PC version is extremely buggy out of the box. Patch that was released didn't help it much either. At least with the console version you literally just put the disc in and away you go.

Also when you look at Bioshock, the interface and visuals actually look like they are meant to be on a console rather than a PC. Don't get me wrong it is a great game from start to finish regardless of the version, I played through a buggy PC version because I was enjoying it so much. A part of me wishes that I had got the 360 version but hindsight is 20 20

I couldn't disagree more, and it's nowt to do with money. I bought a pretty decent spec PC a couple of years back, and I bought about 6 games for it before it was outdated. Why keep throwing money at it when consoles do it far cheaper and in many ways, far better ?

Other than FPS stuff, or other games which simply rely on KB&M, I'm struggling to think of a way in which PC gaming is the best experience. Faff about with settings, controllers, set-up, etc. just to play a game I can fire up in seconds on a console ? What's the point ?
Someone above made the comment 'spending the money on PC's hard to justify now.'. Spending money on Cif over Tesco's eat-it-on-the-way-round oven cleaner makes a similar argument
Nah, it doesn't really, unless Tesco's own brand stuff is actually better in many ways. And if it is, and is also cheaper, easier to use etc. why not buy it ?
