    Day of Defeat

    Hi guys.

As i think that the new versions of day of defeat suck (v1.0/1.1) i was trying to find an older version of the game to play on LAN with bots.

Does anyone know where i can download it? as i cant find anywhere, or would someone with it be willing to host it for download?

    Cheers
    Will

I've been playing since 1.2 and I'd recommend 1.3b as the pinacle of the original DoD they then went off on a totally different evolutionary branch with 2.x and 3.x of which IMHo 3.1 is the best, there's not huge change but 3.1 is the most tweaked. Then finally the current 1.1 which is a joy to play but is in no way the game i started playing 3 years ago

I just find the latest versions too hard to play. like when you are running you cant really fire, when you lie down it takes a good couple of seconds to get the weapons out. or when crouching.

Although people argue this is more realistic it really just takes the game play out for me.

    Henz wanting the older versions

Ahem, well as my Nickname may suggest I play this game a bit!

You may find it hard to keep playing the old versions for much longer, there are still a few servers left playing the older games, can't see that lasting too long though!

The new DOD V1 version is great, it's more (annoyingly) realistic, but everyone has the same problems when running and firing, you learn to adapt, overcome, conquer etc. etc heh

In fact I feel the need 4 DOD right now, Kill ya l8er... <====={+++}0

I hate the game... had a bad experience with it at a LAN i went to....
Me and a few mates went against the #1 team in aust (who happened to be there)
well the best term to explain what happened... is... well there isnt a term... we didnt capture ANY flags but our own... hell after about the first 30 secs.... we didnt get out of the spawn point... it was horror... it was like a nightmare.... if you could imagine the sturmbots with a min/max reaction time of 0 then you would have what i faced...

by the way the score was like 150 <--- my team, to 15000 <---- the OTHER team

    /me shudders at the thought

I like DoD because its easy to pick up and get a decent game on public servers. Unlike TFC, where the play has to be very structured to get a decent game, or CS where you get one man armys (ok, against me anyone's a one man army :/) I find DoD hits a nice balance of being able to make a difference but not being able to take on a whole team straight out of the box.

Not too keep about some of the 1.0 stuff though, new xhairs are awful and the auto-reload is nasty, though they took it off bipod weapons in the latest patch thank god. I also kinda liked the real feeling of vulnerability you got with older versions, where all the rifles were railguns and you could really take snapshots then sprint to a new position.

Anyone else think the stamina bar is way too low too? I reckon I could jump more than 3 times without being totally knackered, even carrying all that clobber. I'd want one that lasts much longer but takes longer to recharge, atm you run out and slow to a hobble halfway across a street :/

Have picked up dod again after a few months off and am suprised how much fun it still is. I was in a dod clan for a year, and played it too much. I think the stamina is about right, when i fist started the amount of bunny hopping was incredible, was like trying to shoot a kangaroo on speed. have noticed a lack of teamplay on teh publics lately, if you go mg no sod drops ammo anymore, also very little comms compared to before, odd that. But overall a great game. Will be interesting to see what red orchestra comes up with when it gets the major patch, ment to introduce mg's and some new maps, a friend is on the playtest team.
