    HDTV/PC Monitor

I've been looking around and i've decided to buy a TV/Monitor that i can use for both my Xbox 360 and for my PC.

Size isn't too important to me, actually i would prefer if it was below 22" if i were to use it as my primary monitor. I've got a 19" hannsG that im using as my current monitor and its fine. I basically would either like to get a small display for my 360 and use it as a primary for my computer, or use it as a secondary.

Anyone know a specific monitor that would work or what to look for??

I'm kinda hoping for the sub-£300 price range.

Well, i suppose i dont mind t being OVER 22" as long as it isn't over £300

I was looking at the Hannspree JT01 XV32", as i've heard it works brilliantly as a PC monitor. Anything i buy needs to work well with a PC.

I'll check those 2 out, but any other suggestions would be great.

    you heard wrong.

for a screen to be effective as a computer monitor, it needs to have a high resolution for its size - to compare, the smallest 1080p TV you can buy is 37", whereas you can buy a pc monitor capable of doing 1080p (1920x1200) at 24". the hanspree you mention is a 1366x768 set - a TV, not a monitor. it'll make for a terrible monitor (trust me, even a 26" at that res is nasty). if you want a monitor, you need to buy a monitor - typical monitor resolutions are 1680x1050 for 20-22", 1920x1200 for 24-27". a monitor/tv hybrid will do the monitor part *well*, then *also* have a digital tv tuner inside. the samsung i quote is a very good monitor/tv hybrid (it comes from samsung's monitor department, NOT their tv department)

Right, in understand this, the point is i've tried connecting my 360 to my current PC monitor, It works nicely (despite being a bit stretched due to the 1440x900 res) but i can't get sound (obviously). I primarily want a TV to use for my 360 but i'd like it to work for my PC aswell (2 birds, 1 stone). I will being using the HDTV for gaming and movies etc, but not for things like browsing the internet, as the low res will look crappy with text.

The January issue of PC Format has a rundown of HDTV's that they tested as PC monitors. The Hannspree 32" came out on top, as it synced well with a PC.

If i buy a PC monitor with a TV input, it will have a higher res than most HDTV's. Will this not scew the image from the 360?

    Thanks.

    Re: HDTV/PC Monitor

look at it this way: a 32" 1366x768 teevee has pixels-per-inch count of 48.9 - to simulate the experience, try setting your 19" monitor to 800x600 (if it's 4:3), or 800*500 (for 16:10). a 1366x768 32" tv would be slightly lower res than that

    Re: HDTV/PC Monitor

IMO best thing is to get a 22" with VGA/DVI inputs and buy a VGA cable for your xbox if you dont need a tuner

and the 24" OCuK value monitor, or a little more for the Hyundai W240D series would be good, or even a Dell 240x monitor

I know what you mean. Its a valid point but I'd only be using the HDTV for gaming and movies. If use my 19" for general of stuff. But anyway. I'll go with a pc monitor methinks.

What's the best size/res to use so that it wont distort the xboxs image?

if you use the VGA cable, the xbox will do any pc-centric resolution (e.g. 1680x1050). otherwise, your image is likely to be ~10% stretched vertically (monitors are 16:10, tvs are 16:9)

I bought a Samsung 2032MW. I think thats the 20" version of what you recommended.
Works brilliantly as a PC display and an Xbox display. Thanks for all the advice!

no freeview, which is a shame in its capacity as a tv, but it should serve you well
