First Game and do you still own it?

What is the first game that you bought and remember to this day that sticks in your head?

I've been gaming for so many years now with the Commodore 16 being my first ever machine.

For me though I remember buying 3 games together when I first decided to go PC gaming. Blood 2, Nocturne and also Nomad Soul, all of which I still have.

Reason for this thread is that I've just been digging about some old boxes and came across my copies of Nomad Soul and also Blood 2 (No idea where Nocturne is! ). Blood 2 runs fine under Vista 64 bit once you patch it up and is still great today after all these years.

Nomad Soul particularly sticks out as I remember not being able to run it in all its glory when it was first released as it required a monster system and then some back in its day. About to install it and see what happens!

The first PC game i bought was the original theme park. I think i still have the disc at home somewhere. The only other console i owned was an original gameboy, i have a few games for it but sold everything when the dpad on the gameboy stopped working

Re: First Game and do you still own it?

em i had the old commodore 64(i think xD) and had about 300 games(its my dads xD) and had stuff like fire and ice/prince of persia, got loads of them still except for persia as some1 spilt coffee on it. For PC gaming i think my first game was red alert the demo(amazing how fun demos were back then) but the real game i played was probably alien vs predator 2, great game and still have it.

Re: First Game and do you still own it?

Had about 60 - 70 games with an Amiga, mum gave it all to a charity shop a couple of years ago

For the PC, can't remember the first exactly but it was either Carmageddon 2, Worms 2 or Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2. The disks are all lying around somewhere, not in the best condition though.

Re: First Game and do you still own it?

Nomad Soul is running fine with everything maxxed for the first time ever in my household and it actually looks pretty good for a game that was released in 1999. City is pretty good due to the amount of people on the streets and vehicles on the road.

Going way back for me I remember buying Winter Games and also Olympic Skier on the Commodore 16, on the Commodore 64 it has to be Hunchback with the teddy bears picnic music playing in the background. You had to jump over gaps with soldiers trying to shove their spears up your nether regions and arrows moving across the screen you had to jump. All in all it was basic but so addictive!

Re: First Game and do you still own it?

Think there are quite a few of us on the boards that still own retro stuff (myself included)!

Think some of us are starting to show our ages with this one!

I have also just found my copy of Rune, really old 3rd person Viking hack & slash platformer. But another that really stands out is Jurassic Park Trespasser, pretty good game but the weird wavy hand thing to pick stuff up is just plain freaky! Can't find the box for these 2 though. Put the discs into a sleeve so somewhere about I have a box with all the thick A4 sized cardboard boxes!

Edit : Woohoo, I've just found Planscape Torment. Thats what I had set out to find in the first place!

Re: First Game and do you still own it?

I had a BBC micro. I can't remember what the first game I had was. My first proper game system was an amstrad 464+ and the game I had first was double dragon, I do have the tape I think. I still have my star wing SNES cartridge and special edition SNES star wing box.

4 carts for my Acetronic - Space Invaders, Mazes, Various Pong style games, and wargames (Tank/Plane battle). I've still got them somewhere (The maze cartridge is actually sitting on my shelf at the moment, no idea where the others have got to though).

Re: First Game and do you still own it?

The very first "computer game" I ever played was in the beginning of the 80s at a machine where you put in a coin in order to play.
These places had the note "only for 18 and over" at the door and I was under age at the time. So in addition to the computer game fun came the thrill of getting through or being sent out, haha.

Well, and when I was able to afford the Atari 2600, I played (of course) PacMan and all the other classics, later I got the Commodore 64 ... and boy have I (wasted) spend a lot of time with that.

Much later I got my first PC (80286) and the first game there was the one where you see a person from above, pushing boxes in a room with different pockets ... have forgotten the name of the game, but it was as addictive as PacMan in the beginning.

By the way, I was quite deligted to see a particular game included into Windows Vista which I was hooked up in my time with the Amiga. In the olden days it was called "Shanghai" but is most commonly known as "Mah Jong" ... this game has not become boring for me yet.
In fact I would say it really keeps you on your toes, meaning the short term memory of our brains is been "full load tested".

Well, have played Call Of Duty 4 the other day the first time, and I have to say ... THAT IS THE BEST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED DUDE !! ... sorry, being now off topic ...

Re: First Game and do you still own it?

Going back now I think the very first game I remember actually playing was Chase HQ on cartridge on the Commondore 64, I do remember using some tape games also with it, but Chase HQ was my favorite.

I bet it's still boxed up in the loft somewhere...

Re: First Game and do you still own it?

It's gotta be the Vic 20 and Bomber Attack... it was one of four that came with the Vic 20... all you did was fly from left to right across the top of the screen, pressing the space bar made a bomb fall and level part of the city below... the idea was to level the city completely to be able to land.

Still got it, though the Vic 20 itself got damp and is no longer working...

I used to have a ZX81 but that's long gone along with all the games I bootlegged for it... Ah those days of tape-to-tape machines and Dad photocopying page after page of manuals for the keywords...

I had a BBC B too. Don't know if it was the first game but Chuckie Egg sticks in my brain. Don't have it any more though.
