    Call Of Duty 5

I've seen a few reports now saying CoD5 is going to be set in a new era/theatre but they haven't specified where yet. Anyone got any thoughts on the subject?

Personally I'd like to see it set in the napoleonic era back when six shots per minute was considered bloody fast!

Or maybe WWI with entrenched machine gun nests, mines and poisoned gas to be dodged as you 'go over the top'.

    Re: Call Of Duty 5

Came across this on Action Trip last week. Apparently CoD4 has been a huge sucess (no surprises there) and the franchise has had record sales since going modern. So going on that I think it may be another modern one but with a different setting.

From reading, people seem to think its going to go back to WWII...also COD 5 wont be produced by Infinity Ward, its made by the same people behind COD 3 - the biggest flop of the COD series.

    Re: Call Of Duty 5

It would be cool to get a COD Vietnam, but then again there are no fabulous american victories that they want to brag about from that one.

If IW make a new COD then itll be an amazing game, as long as they dont lose the second part of the script in pre-production (its the only explination i can think of as to why 4 just ends when its getting good)

It is important that COD go forwards no backwards, otherwise if will go back to just being another good WW FPS

It'd be interesting to see what other scenarios they can come up with for modern theatres after having done the generic arab terrorist and generic russian seperatist already.

I'm sure I read somewhere it was going to be set in WW2 again. But this time in the Pacific area. Though a Vietnam one would be great.

    Re: Call Of Duty 5

I dont think theres anything wrong with going back to WW2 again, jsut make it a different place in the world at the time, few different guns etc. There were plenty of miny wars going on at the time.

    Re: Call Of Duty 5

TBH another one like cod2 would be great with all the different frounts, I can't see another modern game as they have done everything except a war with China but they can't make that. Nothing beats ww2 as a war.

And they won’t do WW1 not just because it was very static warfare but because the yanks weren't as nearly involved as ww2, thus there wont be as much potential American sales.

    Re: Call Of Duty 5

I hope this game isn't a flop like CoD3 was considering IW aren't making this one. I can see it staying with some sort of 'modern' warfare, pretty sure they won't be going back to WW2, unless it's just to make another WW2 FPS but on the newer game engine.

    Re: Call Of Duty 5

From what i've read, it's going to be in the Pacific, WW2 but running on the COD4 engine. Major step back if you ask me, they really should have kept up the modern side of COD - although i don't think going down the Battlefield 2142 route is the way to go about it.

    Re: Call Of Duty 5

few links on the subject.. most of which has already been mentioned.

Call of Duty 3 Developer Treyarch Likely Developing New COD World War II Title - Shacknews - PC Games, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii video game news, previews and downloads

In order to keep the successful series releasing on a yearly basis, publisher Activision juggled entries such that creator Infinity Ward worked on Call of Duty 4: Modern Combat while Treyarch worked on the prior game. Given that setup, it is plausible that Treyarch would now be working on Call of Duty 5 while Infinity Ward moves onto Call of Duty 6.
