    Final Fantasy

Which do you think would be best for a new guy to the series? Its always been one of those games that I'd love to say I played, but I could never see one to jump into. I don't really use my PS2 much any more since I got Team Fortress 2, but with exams finishing soon I figured now might be a good time to jump in. So, what's the best one for a new guy to jump in, with a good story and exciting gameplay?

    Re: Final Fantasy

for storyline ffVII can't be beaten imo. i've played upto X and some of the ealier ones. the gameplay is mostly running around, time based fighting and mini quests which all of them share. after VII, i would probably say X would be my next favorite so far. they take a long long time to complete, especially if you do all the mini quests. i clocked over 100hrs on VII, and stilled hadn't completed everything.

    Re: Final Fantasy

Everyone has a different opinion, but for someone new to the series, I'd recommend X (10).

7 is brilliant, but it's very much a retro game now, the graphics haven't aged at all well and it's very hard to get a hold of (and pretty expensive). In contrast, X is in bargain bins everywhere, and is much more modern in terms of graphics and how easy it is to get in to.

    Re: Final Fantasy

I would say FF7..probably still one of my favorite games, obviously the graphics are not too good (but back then they were the bees nees) excellent storyline, loads of side quests to keep you busy..just an immense game really.

I like FF7 and FF8 the best to be honest. Would still recommend them anyday

    Re: Final Fantasy

Play them VII, VIII, IX, X and XII in that order
See if you can complete them all in a month

Forget X-2... and XI is an online only one...

I still haven't played XII but my PS2 is broken, I might try to emulate it (in a legal way of course)

    Re: Final Fantasy

VII is an absolutely fantastic game. Not the prettiest but at least you get some nice cutscenes. The only one I never did like was X-2(I think), dress spheres can GTFO

For a new player I'd probably have to say FF9 or maybe 10. I prefer 9 personally.

FF7 on a psp still looks pretty good. I tried playing it on a 14inch tv a month or 2 ago and was nearly sick i couldnt belive it looked so bad, still looks ok on a small screen tho

I'd recommend FF8 or FF10, I never did like FF7 or FF9. FF8 is available on PC if you can find it anywhere!

    Re: Final Fantasy

6 is very good too. Originially for the SNES, but it was ported to the Playstation with new CG cutscenes.

Tbh they're all pretty good except X-2, which I enjoyed anyway (wasn't in tone with the other games but was still enjoyable). I reckon 10 is still the easiest to get into because of its graphics and availablility.

I've only played X, but loved it. That, and SSX Tricky, were the two reasons I found it hard to part with my PS2.

    Re: Final Fantasy

I played FF8 a long time back on PC. It is still fresh in my mind. It is one of the best things I have played. I then dug into FF9, unfortunately the 3rd disk was buggy and I I couldn't finish it. I played it again recently on the PSP and I can say that like it as well as those olden days. What a brilliant score and engaging story. I have acquired the mp3 "Melodies of Life" ( the theme score) and play it over and over in my iPOD.

Sorry for the long post.. but I am nostalgic
