Yeah that's the same as the PC demo, wasn't too impressed by it tbh, a bit too arcady for my liking and I suck at the drifting Although the graphics and car damage both looked really good.

hmm idk.at first i was the same then after redownloading it when i got a ps3 i gave it another chance purely to see which controller was better suited for it and the ps def seems nicer as the 360 has more of a snap on the triggers which is better suited for other games as driving it can get achy and tiring...
I'd recommend retrying it and sitting down for an hour or something and getting into the physics of driving and definately NOT doing the whole "pull the handbrake to initiate a drift" that it states... pure bs imho... power and throttle controller and braking ftw mate

As I said in the other thread, its a run of the mill racing game. Looks ok, not stunning, not ugly, just ok.

    Its a 7 out of 10 game.

    Re: Race driver: grid

One of the better driving games that has been released on the PC recently imo. I know there's much better games like Forza, GT, PGR etc that are released for 360/PS3, but in terms of PC releases this is a good driving game.

I'm really enjoying it so far, got a few cool features in it with the instant replay, overall think it's another successful driving game from Codemasters.

    Re: Race driver: grid

Bought this on PC, running it on full on an 8800GT and it looks nice and smooth without lag.

Few things i've noticed so far..

    - Graphically it looks pretty nice, there are good reflections, tracks look pretty detailed, good "filler" objects like tyres that can be bumped into, etc. The crowd animations are a bit naff, but you don't really look at them. It's not the best graphics in the world by far, but it's good enough for a racing game.

    - The different car genres are good, so you get a flavour of American muscle to F1. A slight problem with this is that you're limited quite a lot as to which cars you can enter into races with, typically there are at most 5-10 for each category, not nearly as many as some other games. For instance the car that i bought to do drifting with has lasted me up until the A-License championship - and i still won with it.

    - Team mates are meh. Half the best sponsors cough up if you come 1st and since that's you, your team mate won't win you any extra. However, you get good money for team wins, so maybe they're not so bad.

    - The sponsor system works quite well, you get 3 for each gold medal in the race events and they get better as you go up - naturally. The extra cash, and double from your major sponsor, is a good incentive not to bash into other cars too much, or indeed to finish 1st.

    - Drifting is a mixed bag. It's incredibly difficult to do well consistently, but it's very easy to get a couple of good corners with flag bonuses, rack up a combo and you've beaten your opponent easily. Higher opponent challenge scores would have been better.

    - The general handling is again hit and miss, ironically the more expensive cars like the koenigsegg handle like cows. Mostly i've found it ok, handbrake cornering still requires a fair bit of skill to stop spinning out, but braking and apexing work fine. Whilst most races can be won with a bit of practice - lets face it, the AI isn't that good - there are options for pro and advanced driving modes if you want that extra challenge.

    - The damage system rivals that of Burnout. The detail is very impressive and the physics is also very good when bumping on-track objects. The % system works well so that if you do 80% damage to your car (usually by crashing into a wall) you have to restart of instant replay..

    - About that instant replay, another mixed bag. While it works very well and is really handy in certain situations, it is somewhat abusable. Since you can simply restart a race if you're doing badly and you get 5 "instant replays" to use, then you can have no problem winning any race - just use your replays to sort out any dodgy corners. That said, you only get 5.

    - The general replay system is one of the best i've seen. The camera is superb and, as it should do, it makes your driving look professional. The playback control is also a really nice touch, as you can pause, scroll, change angle, etc.

    - It's NOT like Gran Turismo, for better or for worse. The tuning/customisation is effectively nil, and compared to GT, there are a lot less cars. That said, cars handle in a more arcade fashion which many people prefer. GT is, of course all about the realistic handling, etc. It's not really comparable in my opinion, they're two different types of racing game.

Overall, i've enjoyed it. As arcade racers go, this one is very good. I've unlocked pretty much all of the licenses now and it's still good fun. If you're playing on the PC then play it with a gamepad or wheel for god's sake! I'm using the official 360 controller for Windows and it's great - just like the console. Some things could be worked on, like the handling problems and the drifting, but it's good fun for 30 odd quid.

One important note, if you're getting it for the PC, be warned now that there is currently an unpatched issue where the game won't load up - apparently due to a soundcard incompatibility with SecuRom (what a surprise). To get it to work, you can either disable hardware accelerated sound; take the disc out, load the game and then when prompted, replace the disk; or add -novirtual to the end of the desktop shortcut. Try all three

I really wanted to like this and have a great love for the Codemasters brand, however it really didn't tick my boxes and was far too arcade for my personal liking. Shame though since it looks the part and the damage is genuinely cringeworthy.

    Re: Race driver: grid

imo its the best game for me, i like the damage and the graphics are decent for a racing game, forza 2 i have yet to try(so cant compare) but every other thing ive played is just boring evntually. This ticks all my boxes although alot may disagree its well worth the price and the effort, only annoyance is the stupid people online that crash into you and take you out, although it can be fun if you with a mate then you can take him out xD.

The demo is alot of fun and im planning on buying it soon >
