I read on Custom PC's website that an announcement on Crymod forums saying Crytek will not be supporting Crysis no more.
Apparently Piracy has been a big issue and that making a PC exclusive was a mistake.
Bad news for the future of PC gaming?

it wasnt the fact of piracy its that there isnt much money in the pc business now, a game sells for £20 on pc but on console its between £40-£55 normally, alot less effort to. Crysis was very demanding and imo could of been done better(actually be easy to play on 8800 etc) and since it was so demanding no one wanted to really fork out money for something that would lag or not even work on their pc so they download it, my dad bought mine as i really wanted it and since i was building my new rig i thought it was perfect timining, its the people who download illegal things that ruin it.
Your right though, no more exclusives
dont think so...there are still various pc only publishers...i can think of Blizzard as one developer...Crytek is using piacy as excuse...it is not like piracy just became an issue after Crysis was done!
I understand their point, but specifically in their case, they did kind of shoot themselves in the foot by making a game which only a very few people could play at the highest detail settings. I can see why people with lesser systems wouldn't want to fork out for a game they didn't know would run for sure and hense may have been tempted by pirate copies.
Could someone tell me what AAA stands for please? xD
I'm not against console ports and vice versa, but if you're going to make a game for the PC first, do it right and make sure its playable. That said, not all games that are for the PC should be made for console imo.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That'd be a AAA title, from crytek, for the PC then.![]()
It doesn't stand for anything, just indicates a game that's grade 'A' in both expense and quality, targeting the 'A' sector of gamers that spend the most money.
And what's the bet it won't remain a PC exclusive? They've used very 'safe' wording:
Which could mean it's only this release date that's exclusive.Shipping exclusively for the PC this fall
However it does look like it's not so much a AAA release as a relatively quickly developed expansion/sequel by an off-shoot studio.
Exactly! If they had been proactive and assessed the reasons piracy occurs they could then mould there product in a way that it would be difficult to pirate or so that the game would have no benefit from piracy.
An excellent example is from none other than Valve. Their games require the use of steam in order for them to be updated/patched as well as to activate the game(instead of using a CD-Key which is so out of date its stupid). So its both impractical to pirate as well as detrimental to your gaming experience.
This is from Valve themselves about how they don't suffer from piracy that other companies claim to be the devil of PC gaming: Valve: Distribution Model Lures Gamers Into Piracy - MegaGames pc
And lack of money in PC gaming industry is not a valid reason either> Gabe Newel Debunks 'PC is Dying' Claims - MegaGames pc
So I'm sorry but the excuses given by Crytek are not valid and the REAL reason they are moving away is because they aren't willing to do some actual research and to go ahead with some sort of action the problem. Its always easier to sit back and do bugger all and then just blame everyone else when in fact the problem lies with them.
Makes no odds - console games do the same thing. I don't really see this as an issue (nor do I care if they port it to consoles).
It's obviously been in the pipeline for a while - and I don't know quite how it won't qualify as AAA given it's going to be marketed as such (and the next installment in the crysis-ology) by EA, to high end gamers. I think you're being rather picky - and reading rather too much between the lines of the press release. However it does look like it's not so much a AAA release as a relatively quickly developed expansion/sequel by an off-shoot studio.
You must admit, it's highly amusing that it's coming from crytek given the speculation of late?![]()
It was this article that made me make this thread:
Crytek drops software support for Crysis | News | Custom PC
And they then posted this:
Updated: Crysis Warhead announced | News | Custom PC
I got the demo of Crisis running okay and looking quite nice on my PC in DX9.
Didn't convince me to buy it though.
Still, what interests me is seeing the card that eats it for breakast![]()

Casey I would say the demo = the game. It's a tech demo and although the narrative of the main story isn't bad the gameplay is so repetitive and dull (no real incentive to carry on) that the demo suffices really. There is a map you can download with all the vehicles so you've got effectively your own sandbox to play with the physics etc. which is afterall the best part of the game.

I was weary of this as I heard that this like a sequel to Far Cry. I had heard that game went down hill when you face the mutant type thing. Some mag feared the same would happen with Crysis.
Then I heard with Crysis it went down hill with the aliens. FPS probably is not may favorite kind of game.
But Far Cry 2 is looking nice. If they loose out mutants or aliens.![]()
