Question Vista 64 bit and 360 wired controller - help needed

    Hi folks,

I've tried to get my wired 360 pad to work in vista x64 to no avail. I've tried XBCD and the official MS drivers but it just won't detect it properly, although the upper left quadrant of the ring is lit on the pad.

In device manager the device has a question mark beside it and is listed as unknown. Despite having downloaded and installed the MS drivers the system can't seem to link them up with the pad.

I'm tearing my hair out, help!

Now when I try to install it tells me that I need to first remove the device, which I have done in device manager (and also physically)

Also, I've been getting a pop up saying that there is an update for the drivers but when I try to download it, it tells me I can't as I'm not connected to the internet, though of course I am.

    Fiddly or what!

Download the driver from microsoft - works fine for me. Have you got the latest version 1.1 driver?

I don't recall having any problems myself. I think I just plugged it in and it worked, although when I did a windows update it installed a new driver for it.

Silly as it may sound, have you tried another usb port?

I was thinking USB problems are more likely as well.

Re: Vista 64 bit and 360 wired controller - help needed

I think that a failed install of the XBCD drivers was the cause. As Vista was a new build I decided to bite the bullet and re-install the OS with the pad already plugged in.

The problem is now solved and my game controller is now showing up under the control panel and I haven't had any problems since.
