Crysis Warhead announced :)

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Maximum freedom, maximum explosions and maximum Psycho! Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS - News) and award-winning independent studio Crytek today announced Crysis Warhead® – the parallel story to Crysis, one of the most critically-acclaimed first person shooters and PC games of 2007. Shipping exclusively for the PC this fall, Crysis Warhead is the first title to be developed at Crytek’s Budapest studio, and is built on a new, enhanced and optimized version of Crytek’s CryENGINE® 2 technology.
“We were very pleased with the reception of Crysis from both gamers and media after our launch last year,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “That being said, one of the key principles of our studio is to always raise the bar. With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive, free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis.”
“The best result of a partnership that we can ask for in the EA Partners program is when a world class independent studio like Crytek chooses to continue to work with us,” said David DeMartini, Vice President and Global General Manager, EA Partners. “Crysis was an amazing game and is going to be a blockbuster franchise. We could not be more excited to be working with Crytek to launch another hit with Crysis Warhead this year.”
In Crysis Warhead, players will don the Nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, also known as ‘Psycho’, one of the most memorable characters from Crysis. More brash and aggressive than his Delta Force squadmate Nomad, players will experience Psycho’s parallel story during the events of the original game, finding that life on the other side of the island is even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined. Luckily, Psycho’s Nanosuit is just as capable and he’s equipped with an even bigger arsenal of fully customizable weapons and new vehicles, giving players access to the tools they need to dominate any situation. Aside from this new, exciting single player campaign, Crysis Warhead will also feature new multiplayer content. Stay tuned for more details this summer.
Crysis Warhead has not yet been rated by the ESRB or PEGI. For more information about the game, please visit Crysis - Warhead.

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
Is it just me or was Crysis as a game hugely over rated. I didn't see what was great about it. CoD4 on the other hand was brilliant imo... but I haven't tryed any other first person shooters this year...

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
Well people say that about Bioshock too - but I don't agree either. But what floats your boat probably doesn't float mine (and vice versa) - that's no bad thing.
I liked crysis because I like big, open, lots of ways to do things games wot let you kill dog-eating asian people (well the last part isn't probably true). It also looked utterly stunning (and still does). It's not without it's faults (by a long way) - high system requirements, and a second half of the game that wasn't as good as the first (i'm no big fan of snow in games and killing koreans was more fun than killing aliens). Still, when I go back and play it and show people the sunrise bit - they always go 'oooohhh'. It's just one of 'those' moments. Sweet.
COD4 was brill too - but in different ways. It was much more restrictive but had amazing set pieces like the flying fortressy bomby bit. A big shock too after the stagnation of the series.
Different games, different styles of play. I was big fan of farcry and so Crysis was always going to appeal to me.
Anyway.. so I get to play a guy called psycho this time - and he's a nano-cockney! What more could you ask for?

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
True, I suppose... I don't like the openness, I find myself wandering around pointlessly. In the first bit in Crysis, when you fall into the water, it took me 15 minutes to figure out how to get off the beach lol. I haven't tried Bioshock though...
Hopefully they will make the Crysis engine a bit more efficient so it can run properly on more machines...
-
Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
I don't think the engine is inefficient in all honesty - I think the reality is that turning everything up to very high simply was beyond PC's of the time (and many now). People aren't willing to live with anything but eleven on all the dials thesedays and moan lots if they're machines can't handle it. I suspect warhead will have engine updates but mostly for even more effects. New graphic card time soon :(

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
And so the gears of the hype machine grind into motion once again, with everybody's favourite lying CEO at the crank...
All I can say is I hope they learned some lessons from the original Crysis. Ensure your game is play tested before release, don't release wacky details about the engine performing amazingly on current hardware, don't promise to address said wacky promises with patch releases then epic fail to deliver, and perhaps most importantly... give it a decent ending!
2p... :D

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
Bioshock = yay.
Crysis = almost, but not quite a yay. A respin by someone else might be enough to turn it into a yay for me.

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
Oh dear, I literally just said in another thread I was going to hold off on another upgrade :surrender:

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
I never really found Crysis all that open, I thought the gameplay was pretty linear. Though, in the games defence it may have opened up later on as I only played an hour or two into it before I got fed up. Hopefully this one is a bit better.

Money makes people do crazy things... that probably was just a publicity stunt to boost sales

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
I believe they said they would no longer be PC exclusive.

That actually makes a lot more sense. Although, I can't imagine it running well on an Xbox if a high spec PC struggles...

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
crysis was pretty poor COD4 definitely was the best shooter last year but a little short on the singleplayer
-
Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
So, the same game, the same engine, just a different POV yeah?
Same bugs I'm guessing too...
-
Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
I really enjoyed Crysis, up to the whole 'twist' anyway... I'll buy and play this one through for sure.
That said, I agree that CoD4 and Bioshock were both better, CoD4 was the best FPS last year IMO ( still not even tried it online! ) Bioshock was good but I found it a bit of a grindfest... story made up for it though =)
Please keep up the PC-only titles, Crytek...!

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
was hoping and expecting that the next crysis instalment would continue from where it left off tbh, but so long as they get rid of the silly bugs and give it a polish this time round it should be good, but i think far cry 2 will be better

what!! seriously what! am I the only 1 who thinks that single player COD4 is the most abysmal thing ever , it's horribly retarded and annoying.
It has everything it needs to be great but the whole move over invisible line triggering constant enemy spawns till you move another invisible line is ridiculously tedious , it was bad enough in cod2 but cod4 takes it to a whole new world of annoyance

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
I liked Both COD4 & Crysis. I'm Looking forward to this, as the only problem i had with Crysis that it was too short, which is why i think they are probably bringing this out, a lil tweak of the engine etc, but still around the same time frame of the other? It's more like a update/expansion pack imo. One year is pretty quick from them to do a whole new game.
But still, this should be good!

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
Never really liked crysis...looks are top notch but the storyline and game depth is lacking IMO

Crysis, to me, was basically a tech demo.
Whilst the AI and the Graphics were on the whole very impressive, as well as the physics being superb, the gameplay wasn't really anything new. It was just a more open ended FPS, and the fun of punching walls out grew tiring quickly.
It's a good game, don't get me wrong, but for actual gameplay there's much better to be had. COD4 as referenced was outstanding in my opinion. Mainly for the varied environments it offered, as well as a genuinely good storyline that made a great change from the usual WW2 stuff.
The new Crysis should be good, especially if it's properly optimised - better support for SLi and so on.
@da ging
Could you offer an FPS that was better than COD4? (and no, "anything" isn't an answer :P)

Spot on in my opinion...I wouldn't be suprised to see quite a few recycled maps, maybe not just the ones where you meet Psycho in the first game.
Having said that, I'm still looking forward to it.:)

Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
i loved crysis and tbh i cant see why cod4 is so good, its basic to me in graphica and gameplay but thats probably just me. I kinda wish they came off from the ending of the first but i guess another crysis is still just as good, hopefully the game will run better than before on the same cards.

My PC is pretty low spec. And that run Crysis okay looking quite pretty.
I suppose the main reason for this was that I was playing in DX9.
Maybe that makes a big difference?
But have you seen the screens from Far Cry 2? That don't look far off from Crysis graphics wise.
And that will be out on all formats.
The other thing is whether or not this will be an add-on pack or a brand new game.
-
Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
Well it might work on PS3/Xbox but graphics won't be comparable to PC graphics... CoD4 looks so much better on my old 4400 x2 system than it looks on a PS3... thats the only game I have seen on both platforms though...

Far Cry 2 looks like it's just pushing normal dx9 graphics to their current standards and I don't think it'll be quite as technologically advanced as Crysis was. That said, artwork more than makes up for technical inferiority and the increased polish could mean that on the majority of systems Far Cry 2 seems nicer than Crysis.
Not that Crysis used anything other than dx9 anyway, but it was still a resource hog.
-
Re: Crysis Warhead announced :)
Ah, just remembered the whole Dx10 farce. Where It was found you could unlock the ultra high settings in Dx9.
Is this new Crysis game an add on pack or a seperate game?
If it is an add on pack then maybe that would excuse them for stopping support for Crysis.
