    Stream My Game

    I just acme across this
    www.streammygame.com

it gives the user the ability to stream games and play them elseware

as far as I know encoding is a cpu intense job. how can you render and encode then stream the video somewhere else?

the only thing is that I dont have a pc to test it. did anyone tried it before?
    and how responsive is it?

some benchamrk will be great to show performance impact on server system.

please post your pc spec and results, I will post mine once I setup my GT280 PC

    Re: Stream My Game

    the answer is simple,
you have a media center pc, quite but not powerful sitting next to the tv, and a loud and fast pc in the other room.

now you can play games on the media pc without the noise of the loud pc.

or if you are using your UMPC or slow laptop, but you want to play one of the latest games but dont want to be in the other room, then you can use your Ultra portable laptop to play

    Re: Stream My Game

I am in the process of building a new PC at the moment, and dont have anything to try it on.

if there were some benchmarks for stream my game around I would be able to decide what I need to put in.

Sounds like a good idea, but surely there will be an input lag...

    Re: Stream My Game

In really simple terms it's like remote desktop but for games... obviously with lots of optimizations to work at speed over the net.

Essentially any PC that can support the client can be used as a terminal as the game runs within the client with purely the output (video/audio) being processed by the terminal PC.

Yup, but optimisations or not, you still have the latency from one machine to the other. I can't imagine that its really playable on any FPS games.
It'll only get worse when you want to play the games online as the latency will 2 fold.

Lets not forget that playing a game at 1920*1600 is going to eat up a fair bit of bandwidth too. Just can't see how its going to deal with the latency in a good manor.

Anyone tried the free version yet?

Yep... plus getting Crysis to run decently anyway, let alone over a VPN is going to be a bugger...

Are you actually playing the game at 1920x1600 though?

Wouldn't you just be streaming the resolution of the client device? So that would be about 800x480 on a relatively high resolution portable.

exactly my thoughts, if you want to run the game in its full glory, then you want to sit on your gaming pc with your gaming monitor, but if you just want casual fun, then lower resolution will do fine

Well if you have a monitor that supports it - yes.
On a portable device though the machine would only render to the resolution required (I assume) otherwise its just a waste. Not across my home network though, which is what I was thinking of

Ah, ok. I was just thinking about playing games on smaller devices, wasn't thinking about a nrmal resolution display in another part of the house
