As of today you have no limits as to the amount of times you can install / uninstall Bioshock. No doubt this will come as a relief to a lot of gamers out there :

Just to clarify though:
"Our other methods of copy protection remain. You will still have to activate your copy, and you will still need to keep the disc in the drive. SecuROM has not been removed -- just the activation limits on number of installs and number of computers you can install BioShock on simultaneously."
The crap is still there, but now you can install a game you bought as many times as you wish without worrying.....yay![]()
At least it is a step in the right direction. I have been dreading the day when I was going to have to contact 2K to get my game activated as installations had run out.
Securom doesn't really affect us that much, they have to protect their software from the casual pirates. I find nothing wrong with having to have the disc in the drive on startup.
does that mean i can trade it in now, or is that still not allowed?
I won't buy it because of the DRM... I may get it on the 360 but 360 shooters + Controller =![]()

Companies have the right to protect their software. The DRM didn't really bother me but the limited activations did.
Stopping casual pirates where mates will copy it for each other will make the company more money in the long run. Only downside is that if your net connection is down for whatever reason you will then have bother on a clean installation.
I personally think they have done the right thing with this
I find it hard to believe that "Casual Piracy" exists in this context.
Think about it - how many people had a PC that could run Bioshock at reasonable settings, that didn't either build the machine themselves or have a mate build it? Its going to be very small.
The recommended spec was 7900GT/2GB RAM/Core2Duo....Its not really your PC world type PC.
Now how many people that know how to build a PC wouldn't be able to find and download a crack for the game? Again, a very small percentage wouldn't know how to type "Bioshock crack download" into Google.
I find it very hard to understand how it can stop casual piracy when it is easier to obtain a pirated version over an original?
With all the publicity the R/MIAA, BPI etc deliver to torrent sites, casual piracy = torrent and everyone now knows how to use torrent thanks to those groups...
I disliked BioShocks DRM as I hate all DRM, I was one of those people unable to play the game on day 1 due to the Securom servers buckling. I welcome their decision. I am also amused that the 2K rep on their forums announced it as good news![]()
Good news! As promised, all activation restrictions, including install limits, have been removed from BioShock PC as of today. You don’t have to patch or install anything for this to go into effect for your copy of BioShock – it’s already done!
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...
It's a bit late isn't it?
The Bioshock DRM didn't really cause me a problem. I don't have a problem with DRM in principle, but I don't like it when it makes paying customers lives difficult. Limited activations could be a real pain though, less so when they introduced the revoke activation tool later on. The problem for me comes when I want to sell the games on. I found that shops like CEX won't take Bioshock because of the DRM and buyers on ebay tend to be very wary. I'm guessing games publishers really hate the fact that games get sold on, as every second hand sale is a sale lost to them, so limiting second hand sales of games like this must be a very good thing in their eyes.
One good thing about this type of DRM in Mass Effect is that you're not required to have the disc in your drive to play. However, on 3 activations allowed?
On a related note, is there, will there be a revoke activation tool for Mass Effect?
Well that's their perogative - they have no way of knowing if you've actually revoked your install.
