    Angry 360 Freeze

So about 2 months ago I picked up a brand spanking new Xbox 360 Elite with call of duty 4. Played happily on it for about a week. Got GTA 4 a couple of days after release, played on it 15 minutes and..... FREEZE. So took the game back and got a new one. The same thing, it froze after varying amounts of time. So took it back AGAIN. And got a replacement copy, still didn't work. So after ringing Microsoft tech support, and spending an hour talking to them......... they didn't know what it was. So they sent me a new hard drive, which once again failed to stop the freezing. Traded in GTA 4 for the Orange Box. Traded in the replacement HD for Guitar Hero 3 which ALSO SEEMS TO ****ING FREEZE.

The weird thing is COD 4 and Orange Box work fine but GTA 4 and Guitar Hero 3 just freeze.

When it freezes it just freezes, no RROD, I can't access the dashboard or Xbox guide.

The 360 is a falcon model.

    Help!

Take it back to the place you got it and say the damn thing is giving you no end of problems and they should give you a new one.

    Re: 360 Freeze

Just take the main unit into the store where you purchased it with receipt and they should swap it there and then for you.

Could be something wrong with the drive by the sound of it.

    Re: 360 Freeze

Just to sort of jack this a little...

My 360 hs been giving me some problems since i first bought it around 2/3 months ago. When i turn it on the lights come up and it turns on but nothing at all happens apart from the machine being physically running but nothing bieng shown on screen, the controller all 4 lights flash too. It usually takes around 3 or 4 tries to get it to actually show the boot screen and go to dashboard and then it works fine.

Now and then it also has 1 red light, bottom right segment, Error E74.

E74: There is high chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In some cases it is a problem with the GPU and may be repairable by doing the x-clamp replacement (see error 0102)
I dont think its the AV cable, (im using a VGA cable) but it does not boot correctly on both vga, composite, and the VGA worked fine on my brothers 360 too...

It isn't a massive problem, its just really annoying, I'm thinking of returning it in case it develops worse and that will probably be outside the 1 year warranty. Should I? and if so does it have to be returned in the same store that i bought it in? as it would be alot easier to swap it at my local HMV rather than the one 40 miles away...

    Re: 360 Freeze

As long as you have the receipt it doesn't matter what HMV you take it to. In situations like the ones mentioned above with the machines only being a few months old they should swap them immediately for you.

Tigerboyce, the longer you leave it the worse it will get. You can guarentee also that it will go off completely just after the first year warranty is up on it so better to get it sorted sooner rather than later.

Give your local HMV a call and find out what you need to take in. A lot of places just ask you to take down the console itself. Others however require you to return the full lot with packaging etc.
